United Kingdom 2007 Freelander 2 TD4 SE Manual Sumatra Black
Rough idle on startup after overnight

My 2007 SE is manifesting similar symptoms to the initial rough rough idle after startup as described in this post..
http://www.freel2.com/forum/topic12659.htm...cold+start

Has anyone had this problem since his post? The engine behaves perfectly fine after this brief period. But it is bloody rough for a few seconds. Get a little bit o blue smoke too, but nothing during the daily drive, starting and stopping.

Glow plugs? Engine ECU?

Trying to get a bit of background before visiting the stealers.

It's a used vehicle within a 3 month warrantee period.

You could give your injection system a clean;

Would say Glowplugs. Had same thing last winter on my 07GS, difficult to start and when it did it was a rough idle.
Local dealer said it was injector trouble and FL2's didn't have problems with glowplugs!!! They did a free injector test and found everything was OK so on my recommendation went ahead and changed the glowplugs. I asked for the old plugs and on checking these found 3 were dud (the other one gave 0.9 ohms so OK)
So I would say get them checked/changed before the cold weather arrives. 11 GS Bali Blue

I would have said glow plugs but it's really been quite mild.

if there was a flaky plug, I guess that could cause it. daft question - would this show up on a diagnostic?
I ask because I am considering a third party warranty through the LR dealer as we've had great service through the one on SWMBO's D3, (believe me, you really need an extended warranty on a D3!) - so its going in for its healthcheck on Tues, I'm still within the 3 month warranty from the other dealer I purchased it from, so if any nasties show themselves at this point, I should be covered.

I'll second that on the D3, my one got a new engine under warranty at the grand old age of 2. 21MY Defender 90 S 3.0 D200

This is a bit of a characteristic of the Fl2. But mainly when it is colder. Mince can do it in colder weather, but it all checks out fine.

The smoke can sometimes be just little I burnt fuel coming out of the back. Freelander 2 HSE Lux 2013MY - Barolo Black with Ivory Leather. Alpine DVD - Privacy -Evoque 20" Dynamic Wheels and more to come.........

Potentially this might be dealt with by a software update as described in LTB00094 - Body Controls - Hard Start/Stumbles
It pretty much describes what I am experiencing. Has anyone has this patch applied? I also understand it includes the LTB00093 update.

My vehicle is still within its 3 month warrantee period - should this be something the dealer can do quite easily? bearing in mind its from a Jaguar dealership....
