Alarm/Central Locking - What Am I Doing Wrong?

Hi all,

Hard to pinpoint exactly what I am doing wrong - but I obviously am doing SOMETHING wrong.....

When parking the car, I stop the engine, get out, close the drivers door and press the lock button on the keyfob TWICE in quick succession.

Wing mirrors fold in, you hear the "clunk-clunk" of the locks engaging, but the red light on the instrument panel flashes three times in quick succession, pauses and then flashes three times in quick succession (a pattern it keeps repeating).

On trying the drivers door (whilst the red light was flashing "erratically"), I found the door to be UNLOCKED, but the alarm was set. As the door opened, the alarm went off.

I cancelled the alarm by pressing the unlock button on the keyfob, closed the drivers door again, pressed the lock button TWICE (or maybe THREE times - hard to remember precisely), wing mirrors folded in, and the red light flashed three times in quick succession followed by a pause, followed by flashing three times in quick succession - a process repeated three times, at which point the red light then started flashing only once followed by a longer pause.

On trying the drivers door (whilst the red light was flashing slowly), it was now locked (as I expected the first time).

Am I being dense? Am I confusing the car somehow? Am I doing something too quickly/too slowly?

Quite willing to believe it is me rather than the car......

My understanding is that pressing the lock button twice in quick succession deadlocks the car?

i.e. stops someone smashing a window and unlocking the car from the inside?

I thought a single press just locks the doors, without deadlocking them?

Either way, I don't know how I arrived at a situation with the drivers door UNLOCKED from the outside, but the alarm set?

You seem to be doing all the right things,
Once to single lock and again within 3 seconds to double lock Thumbs Up . I'm sure an extra one would'nt upset the apple cart Smile

I have no answer for you other than maybe a glitch in the system, but here's a table of what the LED's are telling you if you haven't seen it before.

That table is VERY helpful (and I hadn't seen it before), thank you!!

I think I need to go out to the car, SLOW DOWN and go through things methodically to ensure I can get a repeatable "fault".

I can then work out whether that "fault" is me, or the car!! Laughing

From the table, and the circumstances I am reasonably sure of so far, it SEEMS as though the alarm is setting correctly, but that the drivers door isn't physically locking?

I may be wrong!

As said, you press the button once to lock the doors and not set the alarm. Twice to deadlock and set the alarm.

To unlock, you press once to unlock the driver's door only, twice to unlock the lot.

If you press three times on locking you would be deadlocking the car with the first two presses and then unlocking the driver's door with the third press.

This is what happened on my 2010 HSE and my 2013 XS. It may be different on older / other models.

Pressing once will set the 'perimetric' alarm, only the movement sensor is inactive and doors can be opened from the inside.

Second press deadlocks the doors and the 'volumetric' alarm is activated (if installed).

Pressing the 'lock' button three times will not unlock a door.

To unlock you have an option, and that is done by you to either unlock all or just the drivers door, this setup option is done by pressing both unlock/lock buttons together.

That can't be right, can it?

If I press the LOCK button a third time it UNLOCKS the drivers door whilst leaving the alarm set?

I would have thought that once I have pressed the LOCK button twice (i.e. deadlocking the car), it wouldn't then matter how many times I continued to press the LOCK button - the car would remain deadlocked.

When I then come to UNLOCK the car, a single press of the UNLOCK button would deactivate the alarm and unlock the drivers door, and a second press unlocks the remaining doors.

I still don't see how I could arrive at a situation with the drivers door UNLOCKED but with the alarm SET, other than a fault?

Yes, it was either a 'glitch' or a forewarning of a door mechanism problem.
Time will tell Thumbs Up

I've got the same problem with my N/S/R door. Sometimes it's unlocked when the doors are locked and the alarm is on, other times it's locked when all others are open. It's a sticky door lock mechanism but I haven't got my fat lazy arse round to fixing it yet. I just check and make sure that the door is locked manually before arming and locking the others. Past: FL2 TD4 HSE Auto

Present: Audi A3 S Line.

I'm so embarrassed! Talk about only opening your mouth to change feet.

Sorry!

I don't see how pressing the LOCK button 3 times unlocks the drivers door Confused

You can only unlock the car by pressing the UNLOCK button, once for drivers door or twice for all doors

I would suggest you have your key fob checked if that's happening

Or you have the sticky door lock which needs replacing Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

Exactly.

Pretty sure my keyfob ISN'T unlocking the doors on the third press of the LOCK button!! Laughing

My guess, after some more playing around this evening, is that I have a slightly gammy door mechanism.
