Unable to lock car

Can anyone help please?

Freelander 2 2007. For apparently no reason the car alarm went off this morning.
Used the remote to unlock car, alarm stopped but red light on dash still flashing. Engine starts ok.
Tried to lock car with remote but does not lock, the horn sounds instead.
Anyone had this and if so how do you resolve it?

Thanks

One of the switches are playing and the car thinks that's something open.
Maybe this was the alarm cause too. Doesn't say in the instrument cluster that a door or bonnet is open?
Check the bonnet switches. They have the habit to fail...

Thanks for that, found the tailgate wasn't locked properly. Rolling Eyes
Car will now lock ok and red flashing light goes to double flash when locked.
But... when car is unlocked red light continues to flash, it only goes off when car is started.
I measured the battery voltage with the engine off and got 11.93V which is obviously far to low.
Checked battery voltage with engine running ... 14.38V
Could the red light problem be related to low voltage?
Unfortunately I'm not to familiar with these cars, this one belongs to my daughter.

The red light flashing after unlocking is normal behaviour. It goes off when the car is started, so what you are seeing is correct.

Thanks Thumbs Up

That's what you get for using an unfamiliar car without a handbook.
Looks to be needing a new battery though.

The handbook wouldn't help much with the red light, since it seems to suggest that it should be off when the car is unlocked and the alarm disabled. But in practice it doesn't go off until the car is started - even docking the key doesn't do it. (I've just been out and double-checked to be sure!)

That's reassuring, I can hand the car back to my daughter now knowing that I haven't "damaged" it and getting the blame for it. Laughing
