Australia 2010 Freelander 2 TD4 SE Auto Fuji White

Alex, I've just paid for the Faultmate FCR. I decided that mobility of the unit was important to me, and I expect to keep my car for sometime: Locking of the unit onto VIN isn't a great issue for me. I read a lot of Colin's posts on various forums. The man has put his heart and soul into it. And I feel he is very passionate about his work. I recon that will be reflected in the quality of the product. I'll let you know when it arrives. MY10 TD4 SE Auto

Good for you! Have fun with your new acquisition!
If they'll fix the error decoding issue, then it will be a good piece of hardware.
Or even if they won't or they'll fix it in another 2 years Whistle Laughing, it's still a good piece of hardware.

I can say that because I have both interfaces.
The FCR sits in the car at all times, ready to be used when needed, and the Mongoose is for when you need much, much more.
Too bad (or not, depending on what you need) that the prices are "reversed"...

My Faultmate FCR has arrived today! Dealing with Black Box Solutions was an absolute pleasure. The staff are very prompt and professional. Before buying the FCR I had a couple of questions about the unit. I received a response to every single one of my emails within 20minutes of sending it.
Colin kindly applied the 10% Freel2.com member discount. The exchange rate from Euro to Australian dollars was 5% better than I could get at the bank.
Now a few words about the FCR. What a great bit of kit it is. Quality aluminium construction feels great in your hand. Works exactly as described – just plug it in, scroll down the list of modules, select the module you are interested in, and select search for faults.
The unit has identified a couple of faults on my vehicle. One was related to the rear right door locking mechanism (and I recall experiencing a minor issue with the door a few months back when it failed to lock on pressing the lock button on the FOB). The fault was identified as “Historic” by the unit, and I was able to clear it.
The second fault has something to do with the start/stop button and is labelled as “Permanent” – I’ve been unable to clear it and will need to look into in further.... MY10 TD4 SE Auto

Hello Alex, I have a single fault code that I cannot clear. The Faultmate FCR reports the code as B12CA. “Start/stop status indicator – General electrical failure – circuit short to battery or open – Permanent.

Do you have any idea what this might be all about? The vehicle behaves as normal. The only other clue I have is that, after replacing battery some six months back, part of the display (as per photo bellow) has changed. If I recall correctly, the top left hand corner used to show time, but since I changed the battery it just shows this symbol -- :--

Don’t pay too much attention to the fact that words “Driver’s door open” are superimposed over the display – I believe that is due to my camera being slow.

It's a little strange that error on your car, as it is an automatic, from your profile...
I don't know how the manual's start/stop system is and how it behaves, as I also have an automatic, but the error could tell (maybe) the fact that the indicator (led) that shows the system's status is malfunctioning... The one from the button set below navigation or the one in the instrument cluster ( ECO @ ).
I know, if you have an auto, you don't have them, but... Very Happy

As for the --:--, you need to set the CJB time.
I don't have the instruments with the time shown like yours, but I believe that there is a procedure to set it.
Maybe the users with MY2010 and later could tell us...

By the way, which firmware version did it (the FCR) shows when you power it up?

The firmware version is 1.9.

I managed to resolve the clock issue. For some reason when I set the time, following battery replacement, the clock on the radio worked but the one on the dash remained blank. I reset the time again last night on the radio clock and this time the dash clock came back online too. MY10 TD4 SE Auto

Virus?

Alex

My Mongoose arrived today from the source linked earlier in another post by you and I've just sat down to load the software when my AVG reports that the JLR134 license application contains a virus - Win32/Sality to be precise! Have you encountered this too? I'm wondering whether you have a "safe" version of this file - I will PM you my email address if you could please possibly supply?

Possible warning to others going down this route.

Many thanks.........

Peter

Yes, indeed, the EXE was infected on my DVD too. But my Nod32 just cleaned it and I was able to run it OK.
I've told them and let's hope that they will fix the problem on next sold DVDs... Laughing

I got the same errors on the disc that arrived last week...

FWIW, I don't recommend this route unless you are pretty technically competent. I ended up building a whole new Virtual Machine with a 32 bit windows XP and then installing SDD on there. But when I've finished tweaking it should be pretty seamless running under parallels on my MacBook Air.

I might still get a faultmate if funds permit just for ease of use. 2011 MY SD4 HSE + planning some interesting stuff

Indeed, this is the way I have it too.
And yes, the FCR is easier to use. Too bad that v1.9 still have errors on decoding some faults and the updating software for v4.0 doesn't want to work on any of my computers. It gives me some I/O errors (the same on any computer) and bails out.
