Mine is just three years old and has covered 19,000 miles and all the tyres are wearing at the same rate. So if yours are the same then you will need to replace all four anyway. Andyfr |

Yep all 4 are wearing equal - i've been offered 2 new Goodyears very cheap (has Goodyears on now) so thought about fitting those now and waiting another month or so (i only do 80 miles a week) to change the others when they wear more - all 4 have approx 4mm on now so not desperate but want them changing before the snow |

You will be alright if you pair them on the axles, unlike the original Freelander p****d off with a Digital Keyboard Warrior |

Just a thought - what are the Goodyear Wranglers like in the snow? - guess they'll cope with 4wd?

I had them on my first Freelander for an all round M+S they were good with good wear rates, 40k on a set is possible. p****d off with a Digital Keyboard Warrior |

There will be as many opinions as there are posters! Do searches under "winter wheels" etc on here. For myself, I run on Wranglers in the summer and Avon Ranger Ice in the winter Nov to March - and I only live in Nottinghamshire! The Avons are not just good but faultless for all conditions in winter months - not just snow but ice and wet as well. If I lived in Yorkshire the first frost would see me changing my wheels! 10MY (Sept 09) TD4 HSE Auto in Stornoway Grey (Now Gone)

Some are happy with them - I have not used them in snow. I found they were not much better in ice than any other summer tyre. Winter tyres are more supple in lower temperatures, hence more grip. A heavy 4x4 won't stop on ice any better than a family saloon on summer tyres. That's why I have a spare set of rims with winter tyres. Also - snow you can see - ice you cannot. 10MY (Sept 09) TD4 HSE Auto in Stornoway Grey (Now Gone)

Just replaced all four OE Contis M + S for the same tyres, in Jan this year with 29K on the old tyres I got stuck behind some struggling cars on a hill with about 6 ins of fresh and packed snow, put the hand brake on and foot off brakes she slid with the wheels locked so i steered to let her rest against the grass bank, when the traffic cleared she pulled away with no problems at all. Nick - sounds as though your car has had a pair of tyres replaced previously as they should have worn even all round. Mine are down to 3mm all round and this week i'll be changing the fronts for now and the rears next month.

I had wranglers on mine last winter and no terrain response (it was a FL2 S). I personally found them excellent and didn't once lose traction, even on fairly steep hills. |

You have no need to change all four, the two axles are not geared together, the tyre company make more money if they sell you four, then they put your two good ones on tat bay and make a bit more.
