United Kingdom 2007 Freelander 2 TD4 GS Manual Stornoway Grey

My dealer told me they order all vehicles with a full size spare, thats how they deliver the vehicles and they don't (on the face of it) charge for this. They recognise that in normal use a Land Rover may very well need a proper spare.... take note this is about the only good comment I will make about my dealer !!!

So, I've got a full size spare the same as the wheels on the car, the only difference is that its a steel wheel not alloy and as such comes with a speed limit warning. Now I've asked and asked and asked about this, the answer I've been given is thst when a steel wheel is fitted on the same axle as an alloy there is a dynamic imbalance. Limiting the speed to 50 keeps this imbalance under control

Have you checked because I too have a GS and my spare is 225 H rated but FL2 wheels are 235 V rated so they do not match Confused

England 2009 Freelander 2 TD4 GS Auto Rimini Red

MY GS came with a full size, identical spare tyre on a steel wheel. Exclamation when my tyres were down to 4mm I bought 4 new GS alloys with new tyres from someone upgrading a brand new GS Mr. Green so now I hav 4 new wheels and road tyres, a spare alloy wheel and 4mm tread left, and am left with 3 alloys with 4mm tread tyres and a full size steel wheel with a full size tyre, all tyres being the same make and model and size etc Very Happy .
The question is do I sell the 3 spare alloys or keep them in case of kerbing damage to the road wheels Question Question

I guess thats cos your not supposed to drive as fast with the spare wheel Question

Most of the forum members seem to have at least a H-rated spare, but I didnt find a speed rating only M+S-marking Big Cry
Aparantly M+S-marking indicates that the tyre has some mud and snow capabilities - didnt know that Shocked but all the max tyre speeds are listed up here: http://www.safercar.gov/portal/site/saferc...d17898RCRD

Abreviated list for us:-
S-rated= up to 112mph/180kph
H-rated= up to 130mph/210kph
V-rated= up to 149mph/240kph

United Kingdom 2007 Freelander 2 TD4 S Manual Baltic Blue

Right old can of worms I opened there! Am going to try a buy a full size alloy as a spare. Don't want to be limited to 50mph on a run to the South of France this summer, with caravan. FL2 TD4 S Baltic Blue, with twin electrics and towbar, roofrails, luggage cover, spare wheel and mudflaps.

Maybe just in case you get two punctured tyres one after another or at the same time and do not want to wait for LR Assist maybe you might want to consider this

Yep all 235's and V rated including spare - however spare is a steel wheel with 50 mph speed restriction

Just checked mine -

Gs with 235/65 R17 V rated

Spare is 225/65 R17 H rated and has sticker Max 50mph or 80 kmh

Penny pinching?

At a guess I'd say more incompetence than penny pinching. Its round, its black, it fits !!!

Maybe it's just that LR wants to encourage us to drive slower and morecautious after a flat so that we don't have another one before we manage to get to a garage?
This is probably the reason I had to pay extra for y spare exactly as the car's - including alloy. FREELANDER 2 TD4 SE (XS UK) IZMIR BLUE SIDE STEPS COLD PACK BI-XENON TINTED WINDOWS - AND PROUD OF HER

235 x 17" V rated Goodyear Wranglers all round, with an orange stickered Hankook 225 x 17" H spare.
Now that is pound pinching not penny.
Anyone changed the standard GS wheels for an upgrade. I am sure there would be four of us on here that would want one each?
To buy obviously. FL2 TD4 XS Santorini

I had same story but asked LR when the 'personal quality contact' called. She checked with engineering who said the speed restriction is because they do NOT supply the alternate bolts needed for the steel wheel. Alloy Wheel bolts have different tapers. My Merc had another set of wheel bolts for the steel spare so that sounds right. I absoluetly agree about penny pinching - I got a full sized alloy negotiated in the sale price Banging Head Grumpy

United Kingdom 2008 Freelander 2 TD4 GS Auto Santorini Black

Today, I finally got around to checking what type of wheel and tyre was fitted, having specified full size option for £120 (a bit lazy from a March delivery). I'd seen this thread, but then forgotten about it. To my relief, it's a GS alloy with same tyre as the road wheels. Whistle I wouldn't want the alternatives that some of you have experienced. Was GS TD4 Auto, Privacy, Santorini with Tundra & Alpaca, Cold Climate Pack. Traded for Discovery Sport HSE Auto.

I was under the impression that it was ilegal to have a different size spare wheel to your fitted wheels, although I could be wrong of course.

Different size is ok because some cars (not LR) come with those "space saver" spare wheels. Only tyre type has to be the same. You can't have a mixture of cross-ply and radial tyres on the same vehicle, that is an MOT failure and is also illegal. ______________________
