Nutter chipped my screen

Don't you just hate an impatient driver who has to overtake ( over road hatchlings) just to get one car in front only to throw up a stone a leave a great big chip in my new heated screen !

Annoyed as only renewed my insurance with new company on the 1st October ! Do I claim ? If the repair is too big and requires a new screen will a windscreen replacement be as good as the original as I have noticed that the heated wires are almost invisible in the screen this time whereas on my previous model the wires were very noticeable !

Very please with my new MY13 GS, so far in first 8 weeks trouble free and returning 42.2 mpg on long runs and currently away on holiday and have averaged 38.6 over 440 miles of very mixed motoring. Thumbs Up Jaguar x-type sport gone

Claim away if it requires a replacement screen. Probably not worth claiming if it's just a repair job.

IF you get a replacement, make sure you get an original LR screen and don't be fobbed off with any aftermarket rubbish.

if they overtook were they shouldn't, and result in damage to your car, has your incar camera caught the registration plate, might be able to claim of their insurance Question Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

....and this is why I do not have a new car.... I'd be gutted about now.

As to the Window - depends where it is etc as to if its a repair or replace. If its a replace stress all the way through it should be LR although I'm pretty sure I read some where there are 2 makers of the glass for the FL2...

May be some one can confirm ?

I was going to post a rant about people driving slowly and me having to overtake them on chippings , I was in a rush to a Wiltshire garage and devour a ginsters pie. I think Id best keep quiet on this occasion.

If the line was broken going into the hatching its is 100% legal to overtake.

There seems to be a growing culture in the UK of people not allowing overtakes or viewing those that do as dangerous. I don't know if that is to do with our queuing mentality or what.
If it is done in a legal and considerate manner it is fine.

Shame about the chip, but it happens. Freelander 2 HSE Lux SD4 - Sumatra Black

Highway code says you can enter the broken cross hatchings to overtake "if it safe and necessary" but you knew that already Wink

People have such a queue mentality that they drive as if they are in one too, way too close to the vehicle in front. So even if there is an oppertunity to safely overtake there is just no space to pull into.

Very true Bob. Lemming mentality and very poor driving. So many people pay almost no attention to "conscious" and therefore considerate driving. Mini rant over !

If the chip is repairable it shouldnt affect your insurance and you wont have to pay an excess. If it needs a new screen then best to go through your insurance. I got a chip on mine a couple of months ago but have managed to live with it as it goes back in March next year and knowing my luck if i get it replaced now i will get another chip in prior to handing it back.

Hi,

Just had to have our screen replaced by National Windscreens, under the insurance (Admiral £75 excess), asked the fitter if it was a genuine LR replacement, he said no insurance company's will authorise a genuine screen if the car is more than 6 months old. However I have to say, the only difference between this screen and the original is the little oval LR transfer badge in the bottom left hand corner......oh and this ones a lot cleaner! If anything the heater element is LESS noticeable on the new screen, so personally don't think it matters original or not Kola is the big solid black German Shepherd, Dobbie is.......a breed you've never heard of......yet;)

I'm pretty sure the OE screens are Pilkingtons. Past: FL2 TD4 HSE Auto

The glass was Pilkington on my 2007 SE but is FUYAO on my 2013 model. I have seen replacement ones that look identical to Pilkingtons but with a blank oval where the OE's showed Land Rover. 2007 SE Manual : Gone and missed but 2013 HSE Lux is better!
Series IIa : Gone but hopefully still alive.
