Automatic transmission maintenance

For those who still believe in the fact that the fluid in automatic transmission is "filled for life", here is an analysis of an oil took out from an pretty much the same transmission from Aisin Warner (VW 09G transmission) where they also say it's "filled for life". Now VW had released an bulletin where it says replace oil once 40k miles.

I, for one, for my peace of mind, I will change the oil every 40k miles (60k kms).

There are a couple of threads running over on Disco 3 regarding changing of transmission fluid, one member has bought the machine and is busy doing transfusions.

Yes, but you can do well without the machine, by using the method described below by user Valhalla.
