The next chapter begins

After enjoying freedom from Uni and celebrating my achievement, as per this topic: http://www.freel2.com/forum/topic16190.html

On Friday 13th (hopefully not a bad omen), I start the Legal Practice Course part time at Derby Uni. It will be studied 10am to 4:30pm almost every Saturday until June. There are also some Fridays thrown in occasionally, which are predominately 2:30pm until 4:30pm. It covers 2 years.

Sadly, due to an admin mix up and associated disagreement, 2 of the girls are doing their LPC at Stafford Uni. It feels like that bit at the end of LOTR Fellowship of the Ring where Aragorn and co are forced to part company with Frodo and Sam Crying or Very sad

Our bond will remain strong however after all we've been through together. Graduation ceremony in January so I will keep you all posted and post some pictures up in due course Thumbs Up LL.B (Hons) - University of Derby

Cheers Thumbs Up

We have been told that if we get at least 50% of our grades at merit level or distinction, we can do a masters degree at the end free of charge. This will require us to write a dissertation of approx 20,000 words on legal practice.

If I was good enough to reach that level of achievement, the next academic stage should I choose to do it at some point in the future, is the LL.D - Doctor of law Laughing LL.B (Hons) - University of Derby

Well just as a quick update, last weeks intro lecture on writing and drafting was dull and had me questioning do I want to do that sh Censored t for a job Laughing

This week involved advocacy and we had to inform the Judge (played by the lecturer) of the facts at a sentencing hearing at mags court. According to our lecturer and former solicitor Dr Malcolm Edwards (a real Doctor Laughing ), I am a natural advocate and as good as any advocate he sees in practice.

Nice of him to say so but if I dislike the other parts then perhaps I should have done the BPTC instead Confused

£15k for that though Shocked One step at a time... LL.B (Hons) - University of Derby

I am also a real Dr (sadly only chemistry not medicine!). After 7 years at uni I also questioned my sanity and the direction I had chosen. My advice is stick with it. Law pays very well and, as you begin practicing, you will find it both challenging and stimulating. I have two good mates who practice law and both had doubts about their career choice in the early years.

Thanks for the input Thumbs Up

I always suspected that the academic study of law would be more interesting than drafting etc but as the movie speech goes: "We will not go quietly into the night!" LL.B (Hons) - University of Derby
