new Jaguar rival to the BMW 3 Series and Audi A4

Looks like Jaguar have set there sights on a heavily contested area of the car sales market place and i have to say first impressions are looking good

Is that a rendered image, or a real one? If the latter, looks stunning!! Foraging near Gaydon....

Supposition, someone has been busy photoshopping a small version image of an XF combined with the SUV concept.... It is well known a 3 series competitor is due for release in around a couple of years but who knows what it will look like and this is unconvincing to me. eh tu?

Even if it looks good and drives well etc etc, I can guarantee it will not be better than the BMW 3 series.

Like it or not, the 3 series always wins. Audi bring out a new A4, Merc a new C-Class etc etc and BMW can laugh in their face. Read all the car mags over the last god knows how long and all things considered, the 3 series is king of the hill.

I think the latest 3 series is a very nice car and there's one around here in a lovely metallic royal blue. LL.B (Hons) - University of Derby

hi

i agree with you Doctor, i think both BMW and AUDI are at the top of the hill its going to be a hard market place to introduce a new car but if they can better them both on equipment levels and price also fuel economy they may stand a chance, just look at the Evoque on how well its sold and both BMW, Audi have cars in this segment as well, so don't count them out 1995 P38 now dead

To be honest, as much as I admire the 3 series, I wish another car would beat it when the critics do a comparison test, just for a change. Sure it loses to rivals in one area or another but when totaling the scores it always wins the tests and gets most praise. LL.B (Hons) - University of Derby

As beautiful as it may look , one thing is for certain it will depreciate faster than a fast thing, the reason that Jag can not compete with Audi and BMW is that the residuals just do not cut it in the fleet market. The other thing about both those brands is that they have condition based servicing, none of that once a year Land Rover crap. As I think about jacking in work and contemplate buying a car of my own a 2 year old x drive 3 series touring or an Avant Quattro make a lot of sense , I'm even starting to like my company bus it just feels so solid and the quality of the cabin is streets ahead of most. 2009 GS Auto Zermatt Silver - Sold June 21 after 10 years of ownership

It will only depreciate if its junk, it may surprise people, long shot I know. Given the record of Tata they are on the ascendant and for the likes of the Teutonic trio the only way is down.
I hope Jaguar come out fighting and proves itself a worthy adversary and people get behind it and support it.
Yes the German kit is technically very good, far from perfect though, all the Jaguar needs, is to be technically good but with a little soul, a personality.
The reclamation of the British car industry has to start somewhere, this may just be the place.

I broadly agree with Taz, irrespective of my previous comment on the image Tata are not in this to fail and probably recognise it will take 2 or 3 generations of the Jag '3' to achieve the market position, image and sales figures they need. I started driving Audis in 1983 when no one hardly knew what they were and they were a cheap used buy, it took Audi another 15+ years to be taken seriously as a Beemer challenger. eh tu?

Look how quickly have Tata turned L/R around. In fairness, some markets have worked in their favour. But Tata aren't going to rest on their laurels; a major failing of many VM's in the past.
I don't think it will take long before Jaguar becomes a serious threat to Audi and BMW.
Tata are listening to customers and giving them what they want, rather giving what they think they want.
