That's a shame. It would be sad to see you go. Sad

I looked at the Q5, but the FL2 was a clear winner for me, whilst the Q5 is nice it's getting dated now and I found it incredibly dull.

Let us know what your decision is.

I agree with you Shilen, I said recently that the FL2 isn't desirable anymore, there are far better specced cars out there, the FL2 has had it's day and no amount of tinkering will allow it to keep up.
The minute you try something else and get back in your own FL, you realise how agricultural it is inside.
Yes. its still a damn good and very capable car but in two years when the new one is launched many will have left and may never return.

And the FL2 isn't dated?!? How the for n'aft you can make a statement like that is anyone's guess.....even with a MY2013, it needs further revision..the FL2 is nearly 8 years old in design! Foraging near Gaydon....

Really? Not desirable anymore? I see many more new Freelander 2s than Q5s and other called "softroaders".

I think the expression, "agricultural" is a bit harsh. Yes, it may not have the best quality interior on the market, but it's a Land Rover, no other SUV could even come close in off road ability. The cabin is very quiet and the seats are very comfortable, much better than my previous Audis interior.

I had an Audi A4 before my FL2 and whilst it was a good car, it was completely soulless and I never had the urge to drive it. I feel completely different with the FL2 and I am often out in it, and it always puts a smile on my face.

Yes it may be a bit dated, but it hasn't put me off another one. But obviously, this is just my opinion.

And? The Q5 has bearly changed since its release in 2008!

As I have said before, Audis are good cars but completely soulless, and that's why I would never buy one again.

SWMBO is in the process of selling her A3, and we will be going elsewhere for a new car.

The Freelander has lived in the shadow of the Evoque for too long, it's been neglected while Land Rover boosted the Range Rover image. Land Rover forgot its core customers the Freelander was the best selling model but too much emphasis has been put on the the premium side of the brand, 3 new RRs in 2 years. Come on LR what about the rest of us. 21MY Defender 90 S 3.0 D200

Had a Mk 1 Kuga for nearly 4 years - first grown-up Ford I owned (Had a Focus RS [best car ever] and a Puma prior to that) - Must admit, the amount of kit I had ticked, it was better equipped than my current fully-loaded MY2013 FL2. I so miss the keyless entry and a decent sat nav.

However, after looking for a replacement, I would say the owner experience of the FL2 has been brilliant - even though the turbo pipe came loose after 2 months of ownership from new! (LR Customer Services came out on Sunday afternoon and fixed it no probs).

We looked at the Q3/Q5 - too bling. Evoque - too common! The X3 - lovely but horrible sales staff. The RAV/4 - too boring. And then went and had a go in the new Mk2 Kuga - fantastic on the road (as is the form for Ford) but the teeny info-screen and horrible centre console really put the missus off. The shape of the car put me off - a step back from the Mk 1 in my eyes. Never really wanted a FL2 but the Dynamic in the Beadle's showroom and the staff there were excellent. Plus the wife liked it - win-win...

You miss the point (again). Whilst the Q5 is an inferior car mechanically (IMHO) against an FL2, it is by no means as dated as the 8yr old FL2 aesthetically. I detest Audi's, and more importantly, the people that drive them, but objectively, you cannot say that the Q5 looks dated against the FL2; basic design and release dates would contradict you if you did! Foraging near Gaydon....

I looked at all the 4x4 compacts and couldn't find a Q5 to compete with price on the FL2. Also hard to find full spec cars, same with VW Tiguan, always something missing. Some alternatives had no spare wheel, Kuga has lousy back seats that don't fold flat X3 has God-awful run-flats and no room for even a space-saver, Honda, Nissan, Toyota all no rear headroom, cameras to make up for tiny windows. I'm buying a 2011 HSE, and the lack of a decent ipod interface is a bummer, but there are a couple of after-market solutions.

IMO the Q5 does look dated! as like with all Audis, they are extremely dull. If the Freelander is so dated and not nearly as good as rivals, then why did you buy one? Neutral

Firstly, no need to yawn when you are challenged. You seemingly challenge every damn thread on here, and collectively we all take it in our stride, so have the courtesy to respond politely when it doesn't quite fall your way!

I didn't buy one..I bought TWO, within 9 months of each other, because they do what I need them to do, both commercially and privately. That should answer your question above in its entirety.

YOU, on the other hand, have yet to buy one yourself, as you inherited yours IIRC....nothing wrong with that of course, and whilst I admire your enthusiasm for the end product, I wonder if you were offered a cash equivalent instead, would you have pro-actively bought one yourself, or looked at others on the market out there? Given that you feel that a Q5 is dated already, and a FL2 somehow isn't (and to a degree, you are right), what would constitute "razor sharp, cutting edge design", given your circumstances? Just curious.... Whistle

Back on topic, shilen has raised a legitimate question, and at the end of the day, needs to go with what his heart tells him. Whilst I love the FL, I accepts that it has it negative points, like any other vehicle out there. The difference here is whether it suits your needs or not, and if it doesn't, move on, just like The Doctor did. Simples! Foraging near Gaydon....

Sorry Badger, been a hard day today, so not in the best of moods.

It is most likely that I would have bought a Freeelander. I have always liked Land Rovers, and I was bored with my Audi after just a year of ownership. Hopefully be changing mine next year at some point. I haven't decided whether it will be a new RRS or FL2.
