Was watching one of those many police programs that are on our TV screens. This time it was the police patrolling the motorways around my way - West Yorkshire.

One incident was a massive tail back on the motorway. A car had broken down in the fast lane.

Police get there and it's new Evoque. Totally dead. Police couldn't get it going despite getting the hand book out

problem appeared to be with ignition system - it simply wouldn't and had stopped in gear and couldn't be taken out. Had to be hauled onto a tow truck.

Still, I did find it rather funny.

And they couldn't get the electronic handbrake to release! The car was dragged on to the recovery vehicle with the rear wheels locked.

Sill not keen on the idea of having an electronic handbrake. What would you do if the brakes failed whilst going down a steep incline?

So your expecting the footbrake to fail and the handbrake. the handbrake cables can fail, so could the electrics, six and two threes.
Personally I like the electric handbrake so far, no problems with it, (D4) works very well and when its on its on, also no need to release it on mine, just press the right hand pedal and it auto releases.
I expect there is an emergency release on the Evoque, they either didn't have the time or the inclination on how to do it. p****d off with a Digital Keyboard Warrior

I saw the program. Over on the babyRR the police program was mentioned with a link to how to select neutral and disengage hand brake. I guess this problem is more common than we think with modern car electronics. Black MY2013 SD4 GS Auto, Wood Company Armrest, Freel2 sticker.

There is a way of releasing the Drive Select knob on all LR/RR vehicles, method differs slightly with each one but it is possible. Also possible to release the EPB in all vehicles fitted with one.

In Discovery it's a simple case of removing the centre cup holders and pulling one lever to release the gearbox and another to release the EPB. In the Evoque its down to pressing the gearshift paddles in a certain way.
