I imagine hybrids must be part of "some other interesting stuff" LR will be left behind without them, many other manufacturers have hybrids planned for around 2015 and without something radical, that's the way the market is heading.

I personally feel 2016 is too far away but that's just my opinion, sales still good so LR must be happy, if they have something radical up their sleeve with the designs and power trains then surely they are onto a winner.
The concept designs will be interesting to see the direction in years to come.

A late 2015 / 2016 replacement puts me in a bit of a dilemma. My company car is due for replacement at the end of 2014 and I can wait up to one additional year - although ideally I want the new car as soon as possible. I need a bigger boot than the Freelander, but the fuel consumption of the Discovery is crazy. Something in-between, or a dramatically more efficient Discovery would be perfect. Weather to wait, pay the extra fuel for the Disco, or even go for a Taureg...

LR should've had the hybrid Fl2 and Evoque out, they spent a fortune developing there ERAD technologies back in 2008/9 but it was shelved.

Recently had a Lexus ct200 hybrid as a loaner for a couple of days. Wasn't keen on it at all. Found it very hard to drive smoothly and was caught out a few times at junction/roundabouts with a lack of power when moving off on electric power only.

Overall the economy was poor, my BMW diesel was much more efficient. Read a few reviews as was thinking I was doing something wrong but they all highlighted the same problems and confirmed expected MPG to be 70% of claimed.

I still think hybrid and full electric cars have a long way to go yet. I don't think the manufacturers are doing enough, it's been a while now since the Prius came out and I think they have not made much improvement. Was hoping for better.

The Range Rover hybrid is getting good reviews, many complementing how smooth the transition is from diesel to electric the only downside is it can only go 1 mile on electric power alone.

I agree that there is a lot of work still to be done if electric and hybrids are to replace diesel/petrol power. 21MY Defender 90 S 3.0 D200
