England 2011 Freelander 2 SD4 XS Auto Indus Silver
Hill Descent Control

Hi, would like some info on the operation of the HDC.
Last week while away caravanning, I came to a very steep hill coming out of a site. I was in second gear and would normally have used the engine braking this would give me plus intermittent use of the brakes, but then had the thought of using HDC. I pressed the button and the car took over with what I presume was normal operation of HDC and got me to the bottom of the hill under full control. However, on reading the manual, it states that HDC is only available in 1st gear.
if this is so, how come it was working quite happily for me in 2nd gear? 2011 XS SD4, Indus Silver (Getting to love it more and more)
2012 HSE Manual, Santorini Black (Loved it and did not want to let it go)
2011 Honda CRV EX IDTEC (Gone and never really loved)
2007 HONDA CRV CDT-I Exec (Gone and really missed)

On the Land Rover Experience days they take you to the top of a VERY steep hill, engage HDC, put the gear selector into neutral, and descend under full control! Impressive stuff but I reckon it's cheating Twisted Evil Ours - 2008 Stornoway Grey HSE Auto

Use the cruise control to alter the speed limit I.e. press "-" to reduce and "+" to set at a higher speed. Best practice is to use 1st in both manual and auto boxes.
I grew up on low range motors (red knob levers or LT77 boxes) and HDC is just the next step in evolution.....
Practice using it in peace time so that when you really need it you are comfortable with it. A LR Experience day will show you how Thumbs Up * GONE. GS TD4 Manual MY2013. Orkney Grey with privacy, cold and clearview packs, armrests (a must!) and a spoiler.

You won't regret it. Go to Eastnor as its the spiritual home of LR off road testing. Ledbury also has a nice pub or two Thumbs Up * GONE. GS TD4 Manual MY2013. Orkney Grey with privacy, cold and clearview packs, armrests (a must!) and a spoiler.

Hi,

Rockingham was suggested by many, and that's where we went. Fantastic! "experience" is just not descriptive enough!

Before; we/you would not believe just what the Freely is capable of....wow!

And if you do go to Rockingham you might just be real lucky and get Mark as your instructor......a very very very brave man..... even when Mrs Kola had a go Whistle Kola is the big solid black German Shepherd, Dobbie is.......a breed you've never heard of......yet;)
