My key fob is still stuck in my dash and will only release a few mm, I have tried disconnecting the cars battery etc and pulling hard on the fob only releases the fobs key blade!

Looks like I will need to remove the dash surround to gain a better view of the mechanism to see what has gone wrong....any help as to how to gain access will be greatly appreciated as I have little time due to having my daughter all weekend as the wife is working....

some very stiff but thin plastic, old credit card or points card cut into a strip, push down either side of the fob should push back the retaining clips and allow you to pull out the fob.

The indent either side of the fob that is gripped is quite shallow and I am guessing that what ever hold the fob in wont be flat on the back, it may be tapered for strength which will alos allow you to push something in?

Good thinking I will give that a try, just very conscious not to make things worse as the car is currently useable but not very secure!!

Not the best photo as it was hard to get in there, but, it does give you an idea as to what is in the fob slot. One lug either side towards the back which holds into the indentation on the front edges of the fob. I would imagine a quick push in and forceful tug should release it, but as Taz says, you maybe be better trying to slide down either side of the fob to try and release the lugs. Only problem is that the fob is slightly oval in shape! If you go this way I would suggest trying feeler gauges as the are nice and thin, strong but also flexible. Hope this has helped a little.

I have managed to pull the fob out BUT I can only do this in the fob inserted position!! Backwards to normal operation, when the fob is ejected it is locked in!! No matter how much force !

It appears the lugs that hold the fob are springy when the cassette is operated in with fingers but the lugs are locked hard when ejected! I think the whole cassette mechanism is further into the dash than normal!

Just trying all different methods of trying to release it further forwards but struggling to do this Black FL2

With the fob out could somebody possibly see if the lugs on theirs are "springy" or solid in that position

Just tried mine, push finger into slot and the two lugs either side are firm, touch the back plate and the mechanism tries to go further in and hold my finger but immediately releases and lets go.

That's strange, just tried mine and the lugs are springy! If I push on the back it springs back, if I push harder it makes the sound as if the fob has been inserted but then resets back to normal position.

with mine, it seemed to open the springs when the slot was pushed, I will try again later to check, didn't push too hard on the sides as didn't want to force anything, or get my fat finger stuck

If your having problems with the fob receptor, get a price for a new one. Shouldn't be much and then replace. From memory, take the front console out and you can see the receptor enough to manoeuvre it out. 10 minute job without getting your pinkie stuck.

Not sure it's that simple.....I think you have to upload information from the original to download into the new unit Black FL2

Can't see that's its anymore than a receptor for the key rather than anything that needs coding.

I would tend to agree with Legoman, it's a charging dock for the key, the rolling code info will be stored in the control module received via an antenna somewhere on the car.
Out of interest, if you open the car with the correct key and place a 'dummy' in the dock, would it start?
