United Kingdom 2007 Freelander 2 TD4 HSE Manual Stornoway Grey
So it is official!

So Land Rovers future Marketing plans have been exposed with the preview of the facelift Discovery!

As thought, there will be just two 'model' ranges under the Land Rover umbrella.

Range Rover and Discovery

Range Rover as we know will have Evoque in many forms, Range Rover Sport and Range Rover. Then the cars we know as Land Rovers will be under the Discovery brand.

Both will wear the Land Rover oval badges, and the Range Rover will continue to have Range Rover across the bonnet.

But the new Discovery will have 'Discovery' across the bonnet instead of Land Rover. This will be the same for all future 'Land Rover' Models. So the Freelander name is for sure heading for the bin!

They have even dropped the '4' on the revised Discovery.

Interesting stuff! Freelander 2 HSE Lux 2013MY - Barolo Black with Ivory Leather. Alpine DVD - Privacy -Evoque 20" Dynamic Wheels and more to come.........

so if i am reading this right its just called a discovery not a discovery 4

so you can have a Disco 2, Disco 3 Disco4 and now a just a Disco

So you may get a Freelander, Freelander 2 and then going to what? Freelander again, or mini Disco or what going to happen, but this is heading along the lines of what my service reception said that they might do away with the Freelander branding Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

Yes, just Discovery. But I think this is very clever. If the two Brands under the Land Rover company are Range Rover and Discovery, think about what we have got now :-

Land Rover's Range Rover Evoque
Land Rover's Range Rover Sport
Land Rover's Range Rover Vogue

So does this mean we will see models with names like :-

Land Rover's Discovery Freelander
Land Rover's Discovery Defender

Plus what ever they call the full size Discovery.

It is a good way of making to distinct brands under the Land Rover main company.

For sure separates the luxury range from the more rugged range. Freelander 2 HSE Lux 2013MY - Barolo Black with Ivory Leather. Alpine DVD - Privacy -Evoque 20" Dynamic Wheels and more to come.........

Although I have seen the new Disco in the flesh, I didn't get the chance to see the rear. Now I know that the badges like SDV6 and TDV6 are no longer going to be put on the back, it looks like they are going on the front wing.

So I am wondering if the back of the Disco has 'D I S C O V E R Y' across the back. I a similar theme to R A N G E R O V E R

Nick, I see what you mean about a long potential name, but if you think about it, look st the Evoque.

Technically it is Land Rover Range Rover Evoque Dynamic 2.2 SD4 Automatic.

If they do this whole Discovery branding theme, I think it is a touch of genius when you consider the need for a single world branding. Freelander 2 HSE Lux 2013MY - Barolo Black with Ivory Leather. Alpine DVD - Privacy -Evoque 20" Dynamic Wheels and more to come.........

Defender will likely change hugely from the utility vehicle it is currently ar it doesn't represent the luxury ethos LR are pursuing.

I was told this morning three families - Range Rover, Discovery and Defender. All under the Land Rover marque.

Luxury - Range Rover
Lifestyle - Discovery
Dual purpose - Defender

This has been spoke about for a while, now it's happening I'm not to sure I like it. I would rather see the money spent on building rock solid reliable cars and improving customer satisfaction instead of paying a group of marketing men to take an iconic LR model and water it down by turning it into its own brand.

They failed to make the Land Rover and Range Rover brand split work hence the green LR ovals reappearing on the new Range Rovers, I personally don't get the idea behind it.

As some may have noticed on here I'm a big Discovery fan, to me there is only one Disco.

Just my tuppence worth Thumbs Up 21MY Defender 90 S 3.0 D200

Your right, dropping the LR oval badges was a bad idea, and it was done as the LR brand took a beating overseas in the early 90's with the Disco 1 and Freelander 1 due to bad electronics etc.

But now the LR brand has become an icon around the world, and having this as a headline name with two specific brands beneath with Ranger Rover and Discovery, I think will work very well indeed. Freelander 2 HSE Lux 2013MY - Barolo Black with Ivory Leather. I can see the logic in it now, after reading bits and pieces. I'm LR through and through, I don't think there is anything else I would have. I suppose if it means I can get a Discovery again without fear of it not fitting in my drive, it must be a good thing Thumbs Up 21MY Defender 90 S 3.0 D200
