Christmas Cakes cook your own

Decided to cook a Christmas cake, I bought a tesco finest per mix in the Christmas sales last year for £5 (reduced in the new years offers) Laughing and thought it was about time I did it

So I spent £7 on a cake tin, bought greaseproof paper, eggs, dried egg white powder, added more dark rum and barcardi to the raisin & brandy mix it came with, a large orange to just use the zest off

Then I have cooked it for the past four bloody hours in the oven

I'm starting to think I could have hopped on a train to London and ought a harrods cake cheaper Confused Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

You ain't the only one Nick. Starting mine shortly and will let the fruit soak in alcohol over several weeks.
Bought cake just isn't anywhere near as good Thumbs Up Another member of the failed FL2 clutch/DMF club, twice.

What's the ideal length of time the fruit should soak for? 21MY Defender 90 S 3.0 D200

My dear Mother used to leave it for a couple of months and top up every now and then as the fruit soaks it up. Make sure that the fruit is covered Thumbs Up

Then, when the cake is baked, insert a small knitting needle, make a small holes here and there and 'feed' the cake with more booze every day Thumbs Up
Cor, I can taste it now Another member of the failed FL2 clutch/DMF club, twice.
