2007 Freelander 2 TD4 HSE Auto Santorini Black
gear stick problem

Hi all I put my freelander auto into gear today and i heard a sound like snapping plastic.Since then, the bit that you push in(at the top of the stick) to move the stick is stuck in.I can still put it into all the gears but i dont need to press the button to do so.Any ideas on prices to repair..is it safe to drive etc....thanks in advance
