FRENCH AND UK DEALERSHIPS - POOR SERVICE

I had the misfortune to break down twice in the past 2 weeks whilst in Europe. Just to say the non L/R Chevrolet dealers in Bad Ischl in Austria know what customer service means, the L/R dealers near Calais and in Canterbury clearly do not. This marks the end of my L/R ownership, it is simply too unreliable and when dealers don't care about owners then why should I continue to invest my hard earned in their products. shame, lovely car to drive, tows very well but let down by the reliability and service back up. Dealer in Calais said come back next week to have key recoded (!) and in canterbury the dealers diagnosed the car as having a major ECU problem which could take a few days to repair without putting on the diagnistics. It is actually just the key which needs recoding which will now be carried out by my local indy L/R specialist. eh tu?

You may just have been unlucky! According to the latest JD Power dealer satisfaction survey most owners are pretty happy with LR dealers, and they came 5th overall in the survey.

If you have a new car with a bells and whistles warranty they do seem ok although it would be even better if they didn't actually break down in the first place! One of my 'neighbours' on the camp site in france where we were taken to at midnight on Sunday thought it was great when his FL2 broke down that LR took a part of the production line and flew it out to France leaving him waiting 'only' 3 days! What?! The part a) shouldn't have failed and b) been in stock on France! Another one praised the service he gets when his (nearly new) car breaks down, it shouldn't break down to need ANY service! If you speak to the Caravan Club Breakdown Insurance team they will tell you L/R are just about the worst manufacturer to deal with for total lack of customer service when dealing with break downs. It appears when the cars fall outside the new car warranty and dealer network they simply don't care. eh tu?

Sorry to hear of your problems Adrian, and to think, the Freelander2 is the MOST reliable of the fleet!! We do seem to be having some issues with L/R dealerships, whether its servicing, repairs or looking to buy. I am lucky, my local servicing dept is very good @ Colchester Lookers, but the same cannot be said for their car sales. I wonder if they are just doing too well with the cars selling themselves and customer loyalty/satisfaction being a thing of the past.
Like you, unless I see some improvement with their treatment of customers, my money will go elsewhere.

Must admit my dealer is first class (Pentland Cupar), my Land Rovers have been faultless but there are a few which let the brand down. One dealership I won't use is Arnold Clark absolute muppets the lot of them, you think LR dealers are bad then try Arnold they ain't allowed to have prestige franchises they had to change the name to Harry Fairbairn to get the BMW franchise. Oh and they don't do vehicle hand overs on Saturdays, if you have a private plate you can't get your new car until they receive the V5 for the old one. A Censored les. 21MY Defender 90 S 3.0 D200
