Strange Happenings

I have been away for a nice long weekend in a field in Potto, nr Stokesley

Kids made friends with other kids that were staying, few beers and wines, nice and relaxing Thumbs Up

Taking in the last rays of the sun last night and the chap opposite arrives back, asked him if he had a good day out, turns out he is gradually walking coast to coast with his wife, then asks if anyone knows anything about fridges, and I offer to look at his, as his door fell off, admittedly I know a fridge keeps cheese, beer and milk cold, but that about it. Laughing

I solve his issue as the retaining pins had unscrewed and one was loose Thumbs Up

He then Asked me if I had heard of the Gideon's and went on to offer me what looked to be a pocket bible as a thank you

I politely said no thank you, as he started to elaborate, and then had to interrupt to tell him I am not religious

Now I have no issue with his belief, but why should he suddenly think I would want to have a pocket bible etc just because I had a 5 min look and temp fixed his fridge Confused

No offence to those who have religious beliefs, but I am genuinely puzzled why someone would do this Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

It's his way of selling his faith, always have the door hanging off his fridge and rope in any friendly neighbour on every site he visits Laughing Didn't you have a p*rn mag you could have given in exchange

It makes me wonder, if he goes out for a meal, and they pass him the bill in the little fake leather wallet, does he pop his money in a little bible and hand that to a waiter when paying instead, if not, why me Wink Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

Okay, hands up, I am religious - not overtly so but I am a Christian. The Bible tells us that we should have a mission to tell others the good news of Jesus. As I say, I'm not terribly good at this but I can see where your new friend is coming from. Surely offering you a Bible is his way of saying "Thanks" and really, truly, it can't be a bad thing to do.

I wish you had jut taken it and said "thanks" - there's nothing but good in there. If people in the past hadn't passed on the word there wouldn't be a Christian church outside Israel. Ours - 2008 Stornoway Grey HSE Auto

Thank you for your reply

I thnk I was taken on the back foot when he came out, but I think I was right to say no, as that would have been more truthful to myself, my wife's more religious than me and she is taking care of the kids beliefs, been christened etc, so all is not lost Thumbs Up

As said, it was his way of saying thank you Thumbs Up Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

And thank you for yours! I'm not surprised that you were taken aback by the action, we in the Christian faith have largely lost the art of positively promoting our faith and are suffering the consequences in lost congregations and the comparative advancement of those religions that still do spread their faiths actively. I think it's down to the many lives lost in so-called religious wars that have nothing to do with God but everything to do with man's interpretation of "the truth". Our once-great country would do well to get back to the underlying tenets of the Christian faith.

End of sermon, it's bed-time. Good night and God Bless. Ours - 2008 Stornoway Grey HSE Auto

As the bible was written long long after the so called events, in reality one has to take the bible with a pinch of salt.
Nothing wrong in being religious if thats your want but most church goers I have met just do lip service.

the basic truth here is that you ventured off the known path, onto a caravan site, you expect normal poeple in a field near Potto Laughing At work

I have been to Potto a fair few times in the past, four nights £40 can't go wrong and meet some nice people Thumbs Up

As Realspeed says, the main aim is to help people, when i was away in the cotswolds earlier this month a chap pulled up and he was 6ft short from been about to reach the electric hook up, so i loaned him my spare electrical lead, my electric drill and bit to put the corner steadies down, it was his 2nd outing

Came home the day he was leaving to find my lead and a bottle of wine as a thank you Bow down

I will always help were I can, a few years ago putting on my wet weather gear and helping a struggling couple put up their cheapo awning was a little annoying to the wife as i was suppose to be cooking dinner, but they had a very young toddler who needed watching so again it was worth it Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis
