Aircon Regas every year?

Just took FL2 in for a service and got told, just like last year, that it needed a aircon regas.
Now I didn't take it from them last year as it was stupidly expensive but I did have it done later on.
The aircon runs really well as it is before and after the regas last year.

Does it really need regassing each year, or is it just a (air)con they can charge for that you can't see or check yourself? 2008 FL2 TD4 XS Zermatt Silver, Manual

Why did they say it needed a regas? Past: FL2 TD4 HSE Auto

Nope not that I know of, was just in for a service and MOT.
Apparently according to their notes (not a dealership), Land Rover advise it every year which I thought was a bit suspect. 2008 FL2 TD4 XS Zermatt Silver, Manual

Mine's 4 years old now and as far as I'm aware it's never been regassed, and the aircon works just fine. Last time it was serviced (a couple of months ago, at TVLR) they obviously checked the aircon, as it was left on full cold, but no mention of a regas.

Well mine was coming up to four years last time I had it done and I thought, actually it wouldn't be a bad idea.
But every year, when there seems to be no problem is taking the p*ss.

I think this is one of those garage tricks to get you to cough £80+ for something that makes Censored all difference! 2008 FL2 TD4 XS Zermatt Silver, Manual

If the aircon needs regassing every year the system has a leak which should be rectified.
Had a Disco for 16 years the air con was never regassed and was still giving air out at 5C with 23C outside.
Sounds like a con to me.
Just measure the air outlet temp at one of the face level vents on a hot day.
You should get 4-5C after a while. Thumbs Up

Con... and or leak.....

Needs a pressure test - also its illegal to charge a known leaking system....

I seem to recall the advice being that one should use the aircon regularly (even in winter eg) to 'maintain' it & avoid the need for a re-gas... is that an urban myth? ...

Supposed to stop the seals drying out and thus leaking, or something. I just leave mine on auto all the time - I think it uses the aircon even in winter as a dehumidifier to stop the windows misting up (in conjunction with the heater, obviously). Might be wrong though.

That's right, demisting and keeping it that way is slow and hard work especially if you get in the car with wet clothes, but put the aircon on and watch it go Thumbs Up

Sorry didn't realise there were other replies.

I think it's a con rather than a problem/leak. Garage trying to pull one on something you can't really check before or after yourself. I declined, and never had a problem either plus it's always on.

Thanks for the sound advice and hearing me out Smile 2008 FL2 TD4 XS Zermatt Silver, Manual
