New Engine ECU Software.

Hi

I have seen several quotes from people who have cars at dealers who are trouble shooting defects referring to new engine ECU software. Does anybody know what this new software is supposed to fix. And what models it is applicable to. Many thanks.

How can you find out which software the car has?

It's a dealer job...

Or you can find out by yourself, if you have an interface which can access the car's CAN buses.
You ask the module, at its address, on its CAN-BUS, for PID F191 for hardware part number and for PID F188 for software part number. PID stands for Parameter ID.
In this particular case, send to CAN address 7E0 (engine ECU), at 500 kbps CAN speed, the bytes (in hex):
22 F1 91 for hardware part number and
22 F1 88 for software part number.
22 stands for ReadDataByIdentifier command.
The engine ECU will respond at address 7E8 (its address + 8 ) with the requested information.
All is specified pretty clear in ISO14229-1.

after all that what actually does the new software do in plain english to the car? interested as mine had something done but don't know what. Hasn't appeared to make any difference to the running of my car

lets go back to the time when having a heater in a car was and extra let alone a radio. Solex or stromberg carbs were the norm and an engine could be fixed with a screw driver and couple of spanners. My first car a Ford Anglia 100e (3 forward and a reverse gear only) even only had the window wipers work on air pressure, put your foot down and they stopped working altogether. Ex 2010 Freelander2 GS-e Diesel manual Silver owner

I've only answered to FreeLander88 on how you can find the software version.

A new software could fix some problems (bugs) that LR considered that could create problems to the users and/or their cars in the long run.

And many times the dealer or the garage doesn't even know what modifications are made as is a common policy that when repairing something on the car to automatically (and many times silently) update all the softwares on the car.

United Kingdom 2014 Freelander 2 TD4 XS Manual Orkney Grey

My MY11 TD4 has an ongoing history of hesitation and lurching when accelerating between 1000 - 2000 rpm, no fault codes have ever shown but after producing some evidence from another user on here where they'd eventually replaced EGR valve, turbo and all hoses, LR directed the dealer to change tyhe EGR - result car is worse and is awful below 2000 rpm. I was then told LR were producing a new download to re-calibrate the EGR to Turbo and was specifically to address this problem. it was due out on or about 19th Aug - still not released but now my dealer has another car with similar problems so they now might believe me a bit more as I felt they thought I was making it up as they couldn't reproduce it! Warranty due to expire next month but they say as it's an ongoing problem it will still be covered - keeping my fingers crossed on that score. MY14 TD4 manual XS Orkney grey.

United Kingdom 2013 Freelander 2 TD4 XS Manual Ipanema Sand

Got my first MOT this Monday, but dealer told me to book an appointment for mid September as latest software update is expected first week in September. While in warranty update will be free, but even though I've got an extended warranty with LR the software updates will cost me in future Evil or Very Mad _________________
