Jaguar-Land Rover (JLR) will recall thousands of vehicles in China to deal with possible engine and oil leakage problems.

JLR will recall 8,656 Range Rover Auroras and Land Rover Freelander 2 models built between January 2012 and June 2013 to investigate possible oil leakage problems, China's quality watchdog said.

The company will also recall 3,196 Jaguar XF models built between July 2012 and May 2013, and XJs manufactured between March 2012 and May 2013 over potential engine problems, according to the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine (AQSIQ).

JLR said that Jaguar sales surged 65% in July to 6,157 vehicles while Land Rover sales rose 14% to 25,454 vehicles. The company sold 31,611 vehicles in July, a 21% increase from a year ago. It sold 241,801 vehicles in the first seven months of 2013, a 15% increase over the same period in the previous year.

"The company's technical field reporting team was made aware of a limited number of incidents involving fuel leaks from the affected engine," Jaguar-Land Rover said.

There's a slightly different take on it here:
http://www.thehindubusinessline.com/compan...708132.ece

Quote:
MUMBAI, JULY 31:
Jaguar Land Rover is recalling 2,229 Freelander 2 SUV in China due to a potential perforation in power steering hose that could lead to oil leak and even combustion. The Freelander 2s are imported from the UK.

Tata Motors-owned JLR has also decided to recall a batch of the sport utility vehicles from two other countries, Poland and Turkey.

China is JLR's third biggest market by volume. Official sales began in 2003 for Land Rover, and in 2004, for Jaguar. More than 200 people work in the company's China National Sales Company.

Noting that the recalls were with regard “to a specific model, with a left-hand drive and a particular engine, and affected a small number of cars”', the spokesperson said the recall and consequent “repair would just take one hour in all”'.

The recall in China involves imported Freelander 2, manufactured between September 19, 2011 and April 20, 2012. Any recall would necessitate the dealer undertaking an inspection of the vehicle and fitting a new sleeve to the air-conditioning refrigerant filling nozzle or replacing the power steering hose.

The company has notified its customers about the recall and will replace the related accessories.

An official spokesperson said, “The size of the recall is not big. This would not impact the India operations of JLR”'.

Sounds like it may be specific to LHD cars? And "a particular engine" - are Chinese cars mainly petrol or diesel?

The automaker said the friction between power steering tube and air conditioning refrigerants charging tube may cause the power steering oil to leak and even burn when the oil exposed to high temperature, adding that all affected Freelander 2 models will be fixed free.

Since the steering layout will, obviously, be different for LHD cars, again it sounds as though it may not affect RHD.

If it is indeed the ancillary equipment and not the engine itself, that makes more sense.

Indeed Donnus. I'm also baffled. Another member of the failed FL2 clutch/DMF club, twice.

Could be they are petrol engined Freelander 2's which are not sold in the UK.

Was someone in marketing having a laugh with "aurora" to a China man that's not easy to say Laughing Wange Wover Awowa

I I'd wonder if they were all a certain batch but from memory of Halewood visit they were labelled on the line for a wide range of countries, not just China all in one hit?
