S/Hand Free2 purchase...

Hi All,
Looking to buy a 2009 onwards Free 2 diesel and :
1. Is it worth the extra for the HSE ( about 3-4000 )
2. Anything to look out for in an inspection?
3. Other than klm's does the MY make a difference?
Thanks for the advice Very Happy 2008 TD4 ripe for mods

Australia 2008 Freelander 2 TD4 SE Auto Lago Grey

There's not much that goes wrong with them. There was a problem with the rear diff whining after around 70-80k kilometres. My 08 model was fixed under warranty. There can be the odd issue with the power steering pump and rack but that was more in the 07 models. You could probably check with LR if there has been any warranty work done. I reckon the SE is plenty well appointed, for me anyway but then I don't even know what the HSE gets you. Whatever it is I haven't missed it. Very Happy

Australia 2009 Freelander 2 i6 SE Auto Santorini Black

I've got a 2009 SE i6 - the difference between SE and HSE then was (a) a better sound system (b) Puddle lights and footwell lights (c) front parking sensors (d) strip of trim on glove box lid and around key slot and light switch (e) 18" alloys as opposed to 17" on SE.
The new price difference was - I think - about $4000. I actually wanted the smaller wheels/bigger tyres for comfort and off road capability. I didn't think the other extras were worth the extra money, and I have been very happy with my choice.
PS The SE wheels are very easy to clean!
Cheers.

United Kingdom 2007 Freelander 2 TD4 HSE Manual Stornoway Grey

I have just bought a 2009 HSE. I Had a 57 "s" before that. I loved the first FL2 but the HSE is just that bit more refined. I personally think they are worth the extra money. In the UK HSE's seem to hold their value better as a secondhand buy and from my experience are in demand. The good ones seem to sell quickly. The GS and XS are a better buy new in terms of value but HSE for me secondhand.

If you are looking at the diesel engine be aware they swapped the TD4 engine in Nov 2010. The new engine is more sprightly* and I would definitely go for it if it came down to a choice between the two. *Not a LR term, just my feedback!

Thanks Wheelen, I'll try and stretch to a MY10, but what is available with reasonable klm's is selling so fast....at least in my price range Laughing 2008 TD4 ripe for mods

Rolling Eyes
my 2 cents worth is try to go for the latest MY available. every year they fix small issues which are not even documented. I bought a MY10 and have less issues than forum members report for earlier MY.
bear in mind that
1) the fuel sender unit is usually faulty (the car has 2 tanks) and they have only recently solved this issue my13
2) the Haldex still gives problems, and when u buy the used model, ask them to apply all the software patches for the Haldex (it helps to preserve it longer - if it whines it costs € 600 to fix)

otherwise its the most reliable land rover - enjoy ! Thumbs Up

by the way Luckygrizzly, look at the VIN number and try to buy a late 2008 model (that way its a 2009 MY but you are paying as if it was a MY 2008). It's the 6th or 7th digit - from 2010 it was a letter - A - before that it went up to 9 (MY 2009)
thats what I did for mine (bought a November 2009 model, which was a MY 2010 already)

well done Luckygrizzly !
now ask a record of what was done under guarantee...
and if the petrol sender and haldex were not done, keep your eyes and ears open for signs (try to get these done if you have a dealer guarantee)
oh, and try and get them to update all the software relating to the Haldex (quite a few updates)

otherwise you will enjoy a fine vehicle ! Cool
