GRC / HDC questions

Hello,

Can you confirm :
GRC is activate if HDC active
HDC can be active if you drive up OR down a colline
So GRC can work when you start in a strong slope to go up a hill ?

RIGHT OR FALSE ?

Thank you

Right, basically.

According to the handbook, GRC works when you stop on a hill of gradient greater than 20% using the foot brake and with HDC on. On releasing the brake pedal the brakes will release gradually, giving you time to take up the drive.

HDC itself can be switched on at any time, but only actually does anything when descending.

That said, I have never actually had the GRC operate in practice, at least not noticeably, even on some pretty steep slopes. In fact I'd pretty much forgotten it was there! I'll have to experiment a bit next time I find a steep hill. Subaru's hill holder system seems much more useful, and works even on gentle slopes (but only up hill).

Sorry couldn't resist, may be lost on you, never mind.

Welcome to Freel2, there is a link below that will be interesting for you, it's seems some people don't believe it to be working, personally, having an auto, it doesn't seem to be an issue as the car pretty much holds itself, I have never tried a steep incline a manual so can't comment.
Hope you get the answers you want Thumbs Up

Hello Smile

This last saturday, i was able to test HDC and it works very well in a descent (pyrénées moutain).

But, GRC i do not see the effect. Is it like "Hill Start Assist" for Lan cruiser 4x4 ? Maybe the hill wasn't so hard and GRC do not maintained the brakes on for few secondes (when i start the vehicule with HDC active ?)

GRC works differently depending on which Terrain Response setting you have selected.
In Grass Gravel Snow there is a gentle automatic brake application in HDC
In Mud and Ruts there is Aggressive brake application in HDC

Thank you for information.

Just to make clear the following question : does Freelander 2 (diesel manual gear) has a helper function to start in a simple hill on normal road, when waiting for a green light for example ?

Or should it remain in the traditional method: handbrake and start avoiding back too?

No. GRC only works on (very) steep slopes and only when the HDC is on.

Yes, that's it.

Depending on which model year Freelander you own, you might also have Hill Start Assist which works exactly the same as GRC but without the need to switch HDC on.
