Michelin Hybrid Tech Wipers

Well yet again, I've been lurking on the D3 forum and noticed a bargain from Advanced Factors. Quick PM to Steve and he's added the Freelander kit to his website.

Unfortunately, Michelin don't do a rear wiper to fit the freelander, the smallest they do is 16" and it's just too big to fit. The front set is a 24" and 20" blade combo and comes supplied with various fittings.

The reason for changing is that my standard ones were skipping and lifting at the edges, whether this is due to our winter/summer I don't know, i tried all sorts to clean the screen and wipers, including 303 wiper treatment. I know for a fact my local dealer charges £40 a pair fitted for the standard wipers so thought I'd get in there first.

The Michelins are far more substantial in their construction, almost rugged. They are slightly bigger than standard but are far superior in their 'wipe'!! Sounds sad, but I'm on the motorway a lot and live rurally whilst shift working so a decent wipe at night is nice Whistle

First impressions using washer jets are that they are awesome, proper rain and time will tell!! As usual, hope this helps someone and big Thumbs Up to Steve for fast postage and excellent customer service.

Are they a different design? I need to get some new ones, as mine are skipping and missing edges of the screen after having the screen replaced in April. Let us know how they perform, I may get a set of these or Valeo ones. (Yanwoo recommended them)

You can see from the pics Chris, the Michelin ones are far better built. Will keep you posted.

There's a diagram about their construction somewhere, maybe Steve can help Bow down 2013 FL2 - Black Edition Auto

I'm surprised your LR wipers have not lasted long. Mine are the originals (car is 2 in September) and they only need replacing now the windscreen has been changed.

These seem to be a really cheap no make brand. Steve seems to think they were 'SWF'? They are just stamped 'Germany' rather than Bosch or Valeo. The actual blade is far softer on the Michelin ones.

Who knows, I could have perhaps got away with replacing the near side only, but as always I went for the trial option! I tried vinegar, glass cleaner and 303 wiper treatment, still as bad so decided on a new set.

Ah well, shall see how these go! 2013 FL2 - Black Edition Auto

How you getting on with these? My sub 12 month old OEM wipers are juddering all over the place so think its time to replace...

I am a bit weary about non oem wipers as I replaced with bosch ones last year and they only lasted a few months...

Are these ones clearing right to the edges? Could you take some more pictures of them closer to the screen want to get an idea of how they look.

Have you driven at speed in rain with them? I notice they don't have a shape that will push them onto the window like the oem ones, wonder if they will lift at speed?

Thanks

Jon, at present I cannot fault them. I'm captain OCD when it comes to cars, how products perform and look.

They clean right to the edge and at present don't miss any part of the screen. I have combined them with a hydrophobic glass sealant and they really are a winning winter combination.

They are far more substantial than standard, heavier etc, so do provide a good sweep. Pics to follow later today. 2013 FL2 - Black Edition Auto

Thanks Jim, I am much the same as yourself very fussy about cars and modifications. Which glass sealant did you use? I put some glyntech g4 on mine when I bought it but didn't reapply as found it caused issues with the auto wipers, they would wipe faster than needed as the water was flowing off. So I didn't re apply when it wore off. Might give it another go though...

I had a very helpful chat with the guys at advanced factors and have placed an order for a set.

About half the price of landrover oem parts so will see how I get on. If they last half as long still winning in my eyes but expect them to be better given the reviews I have read! Freelander 2, 2014 Dynamic SD4 Santorini Black

Jon, no pics today, not enough time! Spent 6 hours cleaning and correcting a 12 year old Honda CRV!!

I'm using Autobrite Repel.....fantastic stuff, really good and nice durability. 2013 FL2 - Black Edition Auto

Just an update on these, unfortunately whether its down to the Autobrite Repel or the Prestone Rain Guard screen wash I was using the blades have absorbed something into the rubber and were juddering horrifically just like the OE ones. I'd safely say it was the screen wash as its the only constant.

Fitted a replacement set after thoroughly cleaning the screen and changing the screen wash and we are back to a perfect wipe!!

Tip is, don't be clever and use any screen wash additives or sealants, you'll pay the price of two sets of blades and a lot of elbow grease and swearing! Censored 2013 FL2 - Black Edition Auto
