Need help please - in car camera

Just bought an in car dash camera from the bay and I am totally confused by the need to format the enclosed Micro SD card - I have formatted it using my computer as instructed but the camera is telling me it isn't formatted and if I format it on the camera I will lose all data including the information the camera needs.

So it suggests that I should back up the information - am I too late? have I already destroyed it on the computer format and is it retrievable. If not how do I back it up.

Anyone got any experience of all this.

I have a Blackvue camera and recently bought a new memory card for it (obviously it would not have any camera software on it).

All I did was place the memory card in the camera and got it to format the card. The Firmware is already within the camera.

Failing that, you'd have to find the Firmware for the camera (should be on their website), put it on the card and then replace the card into the camera and it should load into the camera.

Did you use the correct formatting? There are different format structures (e.g. FAT32, NTFS) so the camera may not be able to read the formatting correctly.

if you have formatted the card, all may not be lost. Piriform Recuva (free download) has helped me recover files from a formatted device in the past. Try that if required.

On formatting, as other have said, try & find which format the camera expects (FAT / NTFS being the typical choices) ...

Be true to yourself. That way happiness lies...

What kind of camera is it? When I formatted my black vue there was a tool you could download that would reconfigure it back to the start.

Would also recommend formatting FAT32 as chances are NTFS won't be compatible.

It might well be but all I did was plug it in and it started - seems I had done the correct procedure without realising it. Tony
