2008 LR2 i6 HSE Auto Alaska White
steering column lock

hi guys I know many facing this issue with lr2. same happened to me, 2008 lr2 i6 hse.
battery trick not working and when i check after i put the key 3 times clicks from behind dashboard
means seems its really locked. how to unlock? imagine if this stupid issue happened in mountain and
the only solution is going to dealer means lr2 shall be dropped from reliable vehicles for offroad. same on lr2[/img]

Do you mean that the steering lock is not releasing when you put the key in?

If so the usual cause is simply that there's pressure on the lock because of the way the car was parked. Taking the pressure off the lock by turning the wheel a bit as you put the key in (or rocking the wheel back and forwards) should free it in that case. This can happen with any car, and as far as I'm aware the FL2 is no worse than others in this respect.

Or is it that the battery has drained while the car was parked? This does seem to happen occasionally, although so far not to me.

I had that problem on mine. Nothing to do with the way it's parked, it's definitely a software glitch. My local specialist changed the steering wheel lock, which in hindsight probably wasn't necessary (not his fault, we were working the problem). A software update has made the problem manageable. Where previously I would have had to disconnect the battery, I now just had to take my foot off the clutch and try to start again, which invariably works. I can live with that.

Yes, I notice 3 "clicks" sound behind the dashboard as well

I don't think so, I park in the garage as usual, all tyre is straight position. Trying to move wheel left-right, disconnect baterry not helping at all

Batery checked is OK, it's 2 months old actually.

Seems many facing this problem, the issue is the lr2 makes this logic on their engine totally block the engine start. Seems very stupid design in my mind, I meant, if you design this as offroad vehicle, this shall not happened, there must be a way to bypass this steering column in any way. Imagine if you park on high mountain and this happened, what can you do? towing to dealer? gosh.....
