IGNITION DOCKING PORT/KEY FAULT

(I have tried searching for this without any luck. ) My keys are both opening/closing the car ok but one will no longer engage in the ignition slot and the other is also very 'iffy'. Any ideas? It almost left me stranded tonight however fortunately I was near home so could walk and pick up the spare which eventually engaged and let me start and drive home. eh tu?
