Whining Noise

I have a HSE SD4 Auto, Oct 2010
Without being too technical, it appears to be 'whining' It seems to be more noticeable when i come off the accelerator.
Any ideas?

The air con has been known to whine, is it still there with air con switched off?

Actually... on the subject does any one know which fuse to pull to disable the compressor but not the system as a whole while I wait to find the leak? Would save any further damage as its OK when the ac is fully charged....
