Perfectly natural for the FL2 to 'shutdown' when left for that amount of time, just a shame nobody tells you about it before it happens. Probably nothing wrong with your keyfob or the Freelander's battery.
Mine did it after 3 days of ownership and a months extended trip to the U.S. See this thread from 2010 Thumbs Up

United Kingdom 2009 Freelander 2 TD4 XS Manual Lago Grey

On the other hand many of us, me included, have left the spare key sitting in a drawer for months on end and it's still worked no problem once we'd remembered to try it.

Mind you, we should apparently consider ourselves lucky that we're only locked out after the car has been standing for a while. According to 'Honest John' (last Saturday's Telegraph) it is reasonable to expect an engine to destroy itself after a vehicle has been standing for a while! Shocked (Case was a camper van which had been parked up for 3 months - when re-started it slipped its cam belt, new engine required. HJ seemed to think this was perfectly reasonable and that 'condensation and contaminated oil' were responsible. He blamed the owner for not servicing it before laying it up!)
