Tailgate leaks

Tailgate stoplight leaks in heavy rain. Dealer suggested double sided tape. What a joke it should be screwed in instead of 2 plastic clips.

Screwing it or clipping it will make no difference if the seal has gone, just remove it and smear a bit of sealant on the seal and refit it. Rolling Eyes p****d off with a Digital Keyboard Warrior

Landrover suggest double sided tape opposed to any sealant as it has to be removed to replace the bulb. The seal looks perfect just poorly designed. You have to buy the light assembly to get a new seal. Censored

A smear of sealant on the seal will be easier to remove than double sided tape, but you do as you see fit, in over five years of Freelander ownership i never had to replace a high level brake light lamp, it's no joke Thumbs Up p****d off with a Digital Keyboard Warrior

i had a leak as well, dealer confirmed that LR fixed the leak only with the white lens tail-light model.
in the meantime i applied silicone sealant on one side and a thin layer of oil on the matching car side. this way i can remove it when changing the lamp.
no leaks in one year ! even washing it with a power cleaner !
Thumbs Up

Resurrected an old thread here......

I'm now on my 3rd high level brake light replacement in a month. The original leaked like a sieve into the boot, the 2nd rattled and was loose like something was broke inside and the third still rattles but fills itself with fluid inside the unit!! Censored

it's unacceptable that a car into its 8th. year of production still has a trivial problem such as an ill fitting seal !
Not even an expensive fix, but an annoying result as water seeps in !
