mine passed it's MOT yesterday with no problems at all. ( an independant garage )

now 4 years old and 24,000miles.

took 6 high revs to pass the smoke test, ( tester said it should have done it in 2 ? ) and the tester also said I was not driving it hard enough to blow out all the crap.

tester also said even if the tyres are ok next year, they advise to change after 5 years anyway ??

Is it worth adding anything, like redex for smoke test, I run it on shell v power nitro at the moment

front tyres been put on it this week as they are quite low

Pinky, if your using Shell V power I'm sure that will help, but I would still give it a good blast before the test just to make sure the crap is blown out. ( I would have done that, but the guy said he could do the MOT right away, so I didn't have a chance !! )

I think if there is a problem you can drive it home and arrange to have it fixed and returned for a retest within a certain timescale, but not sure.

Don't worry about it Pinks, I'm sure you're not abusive with it! Makes you wonder how some of the sheds on the road that get passed do pass the test!

With the smoke test my brother took his DPF delete Leon through 3 weeks ago, that makes a diesel locomotive look like they burn clean, and that passed. I think you've been told wrong Iain though. The tester told our kid that if you fail the first pull, they do 5 more, and take an average of the cleanest 3 (usually the last 3). Which is what happened with the Leon, and sounds like it happened to you. So you would always have to do 6 if you failed the first one. The certificate also shows how much it read on all the tests, the last one was less than half the first. Ragging it to the test centre won't help though, they do a lot of idling during the test so it will start to back up then.

If you fail, you can only drive away if your old MOT is still in date. Mine: 2012 Golf GTI Edition 35

yes I did notice my car was idling all the time, ( while he was looking at other bits ) and thought about saying to him to turn it off, but didn't want to upset him !!

and I have the print out with the six readings, so it sounds like you are right Dave.

I have been looking on the internet and there seems to be a lot of controversy re them revving the nuts off your car to achieve the readings.

must say I was a wee bit alarmed, but again didn't say anything at the time.

I'm an MOT tester
I always give them a good blast before test - it definitely does work. The tester should check the oil level and ask the vehicle presenter when the cam belt was last changed though. If he doesn't and the engine goes bang it's down to the test station!
You can drive them where you like after a failure but you would not be immune from prosecution if you were stopped and the vehicle was inspected by an eagle eyed copper. Past: FL2 TD4 HSE Auto

Mine is due tomorrow and this afternoon the tailgate switch has started to play up. The tailgate is now unlatching when unlocked. Possible MOT failue?
Anyway, got to fix it as I have two Welsh Collies which go everywhere with me.
Fortunately, I ordered a switch from Dan in January. All's well now  Another member of the failed FL2 clutch/DMF club, twice.
