United Kingdom 2015 Freelander 2 SD4 SE Auto Orkney Grey
Quart into a pint pot

My wife drives a 57 plate Polo. On Sunday she went to fill it up as the warning light had come on. On filling she noticed that the pump showed £67 - she has never had to put more than £50 in from being empty. She raised her concerns with the attendant but was told that the pumps are accurate and don't make mistakes. (you know the type, about 20, bored and would probably have a fag hanging out of her mouth if it were allowed) Anyway back to the plot - The till receipt showed 50 litres of fuel. The manual and VW say that the fuel tank capacity is only 45 litres and that the warning light shows when you are down to the last 7 litres thus in theory she should have had the tank brimming with circa 38 litres. I suspect some sort of scam but have raised a complaint direct with Shell who have acknowledged my concerns and are investigating.

Have any of the membership had a similar experience and if so what was the outcome.

Cheers MY 09 GS manual in Lago Grey, Wood Co arm rest and side bumper strips - now sold.

England

I had the same many years ago, it had the glass bowl on the side, ironically with a Shell Garage, the diesel tank only held 20 gallons, it kept pumping, taking ages to fill, pulled the nozzle out and nothing was coming out, so kept it going let it get to 75 gallons then went to the kiosk, they wanted me to pay for 75 gallons, said that the tank only held 20 and still wasn't full, they were out of fuel but the pump was still registering. Told them that I hadn't put any in so the ten gallons that I put in was free. p****d off with a Digital Keyboard Warrior

United Kingdom 2007 Freelander 2 TD4 SE Manual Stornoway Grey

I could get 43 litres into the empty tank of a Nissan Micra. Guess I really did have an empty tank Shocked I assumed that the filler hose took the rest. Everything is relative to my point of view
