Newly announced iOS in the car lists Jaguar as one of the companies Apple is working for integration in 2014 - too much to hope that'd include Land Rover??

My tomtom reads out my text messages - how cool is that...and so does the inbuilt satnav in my nissan...think it's more down to the phone as much as the ICE. WP8 works well.

I think that they are all heading that way.....Toyota started it with the Yaris/Aygo with full Android integration, and others have followed suit. Just tonight I have received a Press release from Vauxhall about the New Insignia, which has also joined the line-up with full smartphone integration.

True badger, difference is, all other companies have this to keep on top of the competition....LR will bump the prices by a few grand when they do!! |

instead of land rover spending money on develping software they need to concentrate on making the diff and clutches and wheel bearings fit for purpose!!! When I die, I want to go peacefully like my Grandfather did, in his sleep -- not screaming, like the passengers in his car |

someone needs to pioneer a standard for mobile devices talking to in car devices much like how bluetooth can offer a plethora of services to a wide range of devices. That way all car manufactures can adhere to a standard and hopefully the mobile manufactures will follow.

Sat Nav is an aid to driving and in some cases reduce stress if that way inclined, other than that I believe all concentration should be used for the sole purpose of driving the car especially on our now over congested roads.

Thats the way to do it.... interaction with users exisiting smart phones ( ala Mirrorlink ) rather than built in OEM systems. If I had my way I'd have no sat nav in mine and use my mobile ( oh wait thats what Im planning ) T Terran 'The' Car For The Modern Day UK Roads ( ie all the pot holes ) 'A Freelander that leaks oil is just marking its territory' - Wise words Now a member of the FL2 'Silly Bill' Club |

Richardk: yeah my last car read out text messages too. For me it's the quality and reliability of interaction that is the differentiator. Voice control is fine but natural language is where it's at (for me) - and it's getting close to being very reliable.

EYorkshire: yeah you're spot on. It's all about cognitive load, which is why hands free is not really any better than using a phone.

Of course, though, alongside these developments of in car tech we're seeing developments in technology to keep driving safe (lane drift warnings/corrective action, auotmated cyclist avoidance etc.) which potentially will mitigate some of these concerns. And then with self driving cars all this becomes mute... FL2 2011 SD4 XS in Galway Green |
