The passenger side appears to be located in the left hand (door side) of the heater vent. The drivers side is located way up behind the clutch pedal (between the top of the pedal and the steering wheel column where it passes through the bulkhead).

davep1 - I've checked on our XS that does have the lamps and no there are no covers over the bulbs (mind you they are only 5w)
