Actifryers and chips

Anyone got an Actifry or something similar that cooks chips with very little oil? The wife is thinking of getting one but as they cost an arm and a leg are they as good as they make out on the adverts? Black MY2013 SD4 GS Auto, Wood Company Armrest, Freel2 sticker.

Pondered in getting one, there is the one that uses a little oil and is smaller, but the ones that friends have is a larger one that just needs potatoes no oil and the swear by them, just seems to be an expensive way of making chips so I haven't got one Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

United Kingdom 2008 Freelander 2 TD4 SE Manual Santorini Black

I have got an actifry thing, takes ages to cook them, like 35/40mins, cannot get a decent amount in for feeding 3 x adults, must admit they are nice but too much hassle. Also no good for scampi etc as it breaks off all the outer coating, with the stir paddle thing. Gone back to oven chips.

Anyone close by that wants to buy a nearly new one can make me an offer and have it, its been sat in the cupboard for over 12 months used about 4 or 5 times.

Only my findings.

Biggest piece of crap designed by tefal to date.
Very expensive to purchase and very expensive parts and the fan motor is prone to failure and weirdly the part you cannot buy separately, we had one for 12 months, no one in the house lost any weight or saw any benefit and given the time it takes to cook things your electricity supplier will love you for it.

My opinion..forget it

On the subject of 'gadgets', the wife left me with some ORDERZ! the other day when she went out - buy some paint and clean the patio doors. Well, while in B&Q I noticed one of these: http://www.diy.com/nav/garden/garden-power...d=13219319 and I thought I'd give it a go. Got a nice result for my first attempt. I hedged my bets though and bought it through my company for, cough, use at work Whistle . The wife loves it and spent all yesterday cleaning every bit of glass in the house - windows inside and out, mirrors, tiles, shower screens, you name it she cleaned it! I wonder how long the novelty will last? Mr. Green Past: FL2 TD4 HSE Auto

I have one too, great results but a few days later and smears appear, as if they attract dirt, I use it now and wipe over with a dry Micro fibre cloth and that seems to be better Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

Do them properly in a chip pan using plenty of lard, nothing matches that, its all very well trying to be healthy, but miserable and heathly?

Well just to buck the trend here, we have had one for two years now, no problems, don't use it for home made chips, takes about 40 minutes. But frozen chips it does a treat in 22 minutes, better than doing them in the oven, we can set the timer and carry on and does them beautiful, much better than an oven, no need to turn them, nice and crispy, not dried out, no black edges because you didn't turn them, also does Potatoe wedges a treat. Chicken drumsticks with a chosen marinade, well worth a try. We threw the chip pan away the fat after we bought the Actifry. p****d off with a Digital Keyboard Warrior
