Duke of Edinburgh

Has gone into hospital and will undergo surgery under a general anaesthetic. I wish him well, but I can't help thinking that any other 92 year old going into hospital would be written off and left in a corner to die. 2013 RR Evoque Pure Tech

Agreed. I too wish him well and wouldn't want to hear of anything untoward being found, but while he is being 'properly' looked after we also see in the news a 100 year old lady being left to die from dehydration in hospital. Shame she didn't have any 'well to do' relatives. Makes my blood boil. Mad Joanne

been on the receiving end of the NHS recently, with my grandad who past away in March, the hospitals were nothing but caring and upfront about what they could do or couldn't do to help him in his last days, I think he had just given up and had enough.

Also my mother who had a operation and nearly died due to an infection starting about a 8 months later in the same Ankle, resulting in 80 days in a high dependency ward in the LGI, only to be found that the body fighting itself brought on diabetes, she needed a major ulcer operation and then to cap it all off, they diagnosed her with Cussings Syndrome, the NHS staff have been bloody marvellous and shouldn't be knocked for what they do to anyone down on the wards,

Can't say the same for how the management run the NHS, but hands on they are doing the best they can, in my opinion anyway

Just don't let the teaboys switch off the vacuum pump sucking the infected fluid out of the ankle because it was beeping a error warning when he was serving tea Whistle Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

The Duke had one of the worst childhoods imaginable, and despite this, he became a First Lieutenant aged just 21 due to his bravery.
He renounced everything, including Nationality, to support his wife and has stood steadfast thoughout.
Despite his 'gaffes', which i put down to a wicked sense of humour, a fine man in my opinion.
He was young too at one time, but with principles that todays society sadly lacks.
Good luck to the old fella Thumbs Up Another member of the failed FL2 clutch/DMF club, twice.

Yes, he's a good chap. And some of those gaffes are certainly deliberate. Good sense of humour and sharp as a pin even at his age. I'm a republican btw, but I'd still vote for Phil for President.

Have you seen some of the child abuse stories in the paper in recent years? I don't think the life of any prince, even one in exile, could be described as the 'worst childhood imaginable' Rolling Eyes

Also, I don't think that renouncing your exiled Greek nationality to marry the future Queen of England was to much of a hardship either! Laughing

Still, as you say, good luck and a speedy recovery to the fella but he has had a long, privileged and cosseted life of which the likes of us could only dream of. Past: FL2 TD4 HSE Auto

Im sure he does, but they arent allowed to say anything, I would love to be a fly on the wall at the palace, I bet he curses no end of things.
I know he's still working of sorts, but he doesnt have to catch the bus like all the other 92 years olds near me, or queue up outside in the rain to pay their gas bill because they havent got a computer, and only one sneeze and the doctors come running, not your average 92 year old by any means.
