air conditioning

Has anyone had problems with their air con. -(2007 HSE auto)
With the air con on coldest setting on each side, warm air is blowing out of the left hand side while the right hand side works as it should. It would be great to get it fixed before the heatwave!

Exactly the same happened to mine. Was something to do with an actuator. Took a couple of days to fix as the dashboard had to be removed and then they had an issue with programming the motors. Hope you get it sorted soon.

Hi

I also have a problem with my AC on LR2. It seemed to be working intermittenly so I took it and had the gas re-filled (not at the main dealer incidentally) which seemed to resolve the problem initially. Now it only seems cold when the car is moving and engine not idle. The engine temperature has risen dangerously high on a couple of occasions..when standing at traffic lights. Is the ac connected to the engine temperature in any way.

Its typical that just as temperature is getting into the mid 40s here that this problem occurs

Any ideas? Can a test be done on the compressor to identify if this is the problem?

Thanks

The clue is that the temperature goes up when you are stopped so a cooling fan or sensor has failed. The air conditioning condenser is between the grill and the radiator. Not sure if it has it's own fan but there are two fans on the back of the radiator.

Thank you BossBob, I have learned there are 2 fans do you suggest replacing both at same time?

I am in Abu Dhabi and as another middle east member from Doha has complained the dealers charge ridiculous prices. I will be looking at getting something shipped here from UK

Usually the fan speed controller ! If it fails, air con stops working when in traffic and temp climbs high!
Fan speed controller can be diagnosed through diagnostic port, ECM will flag fan speed controller circuit either 1,2 or3 open circuit.
Mine has had 4 fail in the first 3 years !

Thank you Oldgeezer... Ill be getting a diagnostic check before ordering anything. Is it a big job to replace the fan speed controller in terms of labour time & parts?

Just had a diagnostic check done and nothing was identified - well nothing relating to heating and ac Confused xxx codes were identifed eg B1165 front left puddle lamp output, B1C13 drivers up down mirror motor feedback circuit,B1C14 drivers up down mirror motor feedback circuit, B1C15 passenger up down mirror motor feedback circuit,B1C16 passenger up down mirror motor feedback circuit, UO163 Lost comms with navigation control module, UO184 Lost comms with audio unit, UO197 Lost comms with telephone control module & finally UO257 Lost comms with front controls display interface module.

This diagnostic report was not however conducted by LandRover.

The car does not have any other problems apart from the ac/over heating issue & at the time of the diagnostic check the car was not over heating and ac was working well! typical eh

Any further advice would be appreciated.

I really dont want to simply leave it with LR Main Dealer as the warranty is now expired Crying or Very sad

Hi as for the fan - with engine running and A/C switched on you should hear or see the fan is running. It may take few moments to start the fan and it can also run intermitently but should be running did you check that ?

cooling fan faults come under engine ECU faults not heating & ventilation !

when mine packed up the first time at just 1471 miles from new Landrover dealer had it for 10 days & replaced everything but the cooling fan module ! I had already told them the cooling fans were not running and was told by a service advisor that was nothing to do with the air con !!! also discovered later on that they don't carry out an engine diagnostic check unless the engine light is on ! after 10 days of repairs & still the same fault I told them to fix the b Censored y fans or I would blow a fuse ! within an hour they rang me to confirm it was the fan speed controller but they were on back order and had to wait another week but it fixed the problem !
when I carried out a diagnostic check with the engine ECU ( not EOBD) 3 faults were listed as engine fan speed circuit 1,2 & 3 open circuit !

it was just the start of a very bad relation ship with Landrover & incompetent repairs !

Thank you for the help and advice....

Just had the verdict from Land Rover Abu Dhabi and I dont like it at all but without the car in use in 40+ degrees I have had to go with it!

They had identified the fan motor as the problem and say that the whole unit needs replacing (along with some 3ltrs of something or other) communication isnt easy due to language barrier at times - must be honest I dont trust them at all. Outcome 750 gbp minus discount = 570 gbp!! Evil or Very Mad

Not at all happy and proposed to order the parts from UK to reduce cost but they can not / will not "accept using parts from outside". Other garages here are not at all keen on working on LR & I am not able so I dont really have much choice.

On the bright side fuel costs less then 30p per litre

" They had identified the fan motor as the problem and say that the whole unit needs replacing " wow

I would take a photo of your fan speed controller and make sure that isn't replaced at the same time ! because if they renew that chances are they fitted a fan & it still didnt work !

My landrover dealer spent 10 days fitting parts including new compressor & control valves etc for the exact symptoms you describe and eventually turned out to be the fan speed controller as I had advised them on my very first visit ! sadly by the time i got it back it had collected a door ding in the front wing ! all the dash had been out & it had a recon compressor fitted to a car that was just a few weeks old with couple thousand miles on the clock ! & that was just the start of a massive down hill spiral of events !

You certainly have been through the mill with LR and are not surprisingly unhappy! Obviously you love the car though, as I do, when all is working well with it. Ive experienced several fairly significant problems to date though in 2 years of ownership. Ive had a new fuel pump as when in sand mode engine would loose power and not rev (LR had the car 5 days for repair), then the alternator wasnt charging the battery which incredibly resulted (& I posted on here asking if anyone else had a similar problem - which they fotunately for them had not) in a 5000 gbp top end engine rebuild to change "a warped shaft connected to alternator preventing it from working properly" (LR had the car 10 days for repair). Thankfully these were done under warranty but I do have a copy of the invoice which was free of charge to me Very Happy . Not exactly sure what was replaced but it had that brand new engine smell about it when driving for a few days afterwards. The next thing to go & NOT under warranty was the starter motor costing 750 gbp and now the replacment of the fan unit at 570 gbp both of which are painfull. Its a 2008 3.2 hse i6 model with high mileage @ 180,000 km as previous owner used to commute form dubai to abu dhabi every day which is about 80 miles each way. However the paint work & interior are immaculate, it drives as I imagine a new one would - used cars are cheaper here by comparison to UK but repairs and spare parts are anything but! This repair is costing aprrox 7% of the current value of the car (8000 gbp) and I am concerned something else costly will go wrong soon - I think its time to get rid!

I assume when you say fan speed controller you are talking about the one visible on dash board and not something beneath the bonnet? I certainly will check to see if this has been replaced. Thinking back now over the past few months before this problem occured, with the fan on low at setting 1,2 or 3 there was a slight noise which dissappeared when the setting was increased. At this time however there was no problem with either ac or engine temperature so I never got it investigated.

I will keep you posted with any further update.
