Tornadoes and houses

Nowadays you can build earthquake proof houses, in flood areas they build houses on stilts

But why in tornado alley, were house have been flatted and ripped apart and people killed have they not built houses that are less prone to been picked up and scatted about like match sticks

Instead of timber, could they not use bricks and concrete, with rounder design less prone to been picked up Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

I think that buying a house at:

124 The Main Street
TORNADO ALLEY
somegodforsakenhole in Kansas
USA

... would have been a clue as to how resilient to make your house... Confused

I find it amazing that in a major Western nation, not some poor 3rd world country, that whole communities can be wiped out by weather events that they KNOW will happen...

It's a good job that no-one in the UK builds houses on flood plains............... Whistle Ours - 2008 Stornoway Grey HSE Auto

Makes me wonder if they use timber as its easier to rebuild with

If they want that 'look' they could clad the tornado proof concrete bunker in wood Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

a 300 mph wind will flatten most things.

the chances are your house wont do a big bad wolf,

anyway property is so cheap over there, its not worth spending twice as much on the build just in case.

They need to build eco houses underground I think, nuclear shelter style.
They could always fit a periscope to see whats coming on the horizon.
Or just dont live there
