Cruise Control on FL2 'S'

After reading ValetecDavid's thread on adding an audio button to his FL2 'S'.

I got reading a thread over on Disco3 about adding cruise control to cars that don't have it Idea

Since a FL2 'S' spec car doesn't have it it got me thinking and doing a little digging about Smile

Since the Audio controls are an optional extra on the 'S' model, i presume the same clock spring would have the Cruise control socket waiting for the CC switch to be connected and it's just LR who are not offering the option at this level

After a couple of PM's the person who did the activation of the D3's believes the same could be done for the FL2 'S '
I presume the switches wouldn't be much, and I have recently seen a set on eBay for sale

Thought i would give this subject its own thread so more 'S' owners would see it. Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

it will be worth looking to see if the CC connectors are there and waiting when you take the steering wheel apart doing the audio buttons.

Don't forget the step by step photos too Very Happy Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

is not to end as the buttons for audio system

After mounting the cruise control buttons are not working - and temporarily do not run this place or rather not know how - if anyone of you may have the opportunity to determine whether it works _________________________

i believe the CC will need to be activated as said in my original post, by linking the car upto the computer system

The person i PM (10forcash) said he thinks it could be done, but your car and his laptop would have to meet

He is mobile, and does get around a fair bit, but I don't know if he gets to your part of the world

or have a chat to the mechanics at your LR dealership, they might be able to do it Thumbs Up Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

id agree - your dealer will probably do it for you if asked nicely.
The above is certainly true for mercs and Saabs - just plug in the switch and activate it. Can't see the fl being any different. 07 Freelander 2 TD4SE Tambora Flame, side steps, privacy glass, mud flaps, boot liner and a tow bar. Ok it's the Wifes but she lets me drive it occasionally - if I've been good!

Is that the dealer that can't enable it?

I think 10forcash uses autologic, I might be wrong though Confused , is there anybody over your way that does it, such as independant garages that use it for diagnostics or tuning

Have a chat with your dealers mechanic, to see if they could do it on the side, bung him a few notes etc etc Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

First post! Hello everyone - have found the info on this forum very valuable. Thank you All!

OK - so the consensus is that the Audio controls can be added to the 'S' spec without updating the Car Computer at a dealer. This sounds logical as it is just a hard wired connection.

I managed to add Cruise Control successfuly to my old Disco td5. If adding the audio controls on the Freelander 2 works, then to add CCs is the next project next...

Thanks

sorry I can't help on the dissembling of the airbag etc

Have you tried a search on disco3, they have the same steering wheel so somebody might have done a step by step guide

Also speak to 10forcash, for a donation to his beer fund he might be able to do it for you

also I have heard you are supposed to place something (not sure what) on a steering wheel to protect the mechanic from an accidental discharge, I presume it would be some sort of strap or bag Thumbs Up Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

if it actually can be done (it hypothetical until 10forcash does it)

The large One on Disco3 (aka Nick The parts manager a yeovil landrover) could provide you with a CC button

If it can be done on a D3 it should be able to do it on the FL2, from memory he check his computer software

I still think it would be worth a punt to get the option though Thumbs Up Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

emmmm .....

Interesting discussion here. I have cruise control on my SE Auto, but have never found the need to use it. What am I missing out on? Confused Life is not a dress rehearsal!

the car keeping to the speed you have set Laughing

I use mine quite abit, but on busy roads its a pain in the backside

set speed at 60mph, the car in front bound to pull out doing 59mph, so you have to adjust it, then he pulls back in your then having to re-adjust it back to 60mph Evil or Very Mad

Now if we had the RRS radar cruise control that would be better (hope LR read that part) Whistle Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis
