I need to remove the exterior b cover trims to recover as some idiot has scratched mine,could have been worse and keyed the body but just scratched the trim.

Did you ever get any joy with this? And did you manage to find the replacement part?

Someone has done the exact same thing to mine over the weekend. It looks like the replacement may be a fairly simple job, but I wondered if you (or anyone else) had any experience/advice.

Looking at them, I don't see that they can be removed that easily. They appear to be crimped and bonded at factory level, on both front and rear doors. It's possible to get them vinyl wrapped I suppose...that might be your best bet. This job looks far more hassle than it's worth. Foraging near Gaydon....

that's why I wanted to remove them and carbon wrap them but fold the enda behind the unit to give a professional job

They must come off though, the Chrome Trim fits over the top of the original Black Trim. The Black Trim is available, part no LR031699 is the Right Hand Trim.

I took it to a tame body shop (not the shampoo sort) for an opinion from a "professional". He reckons the difficulty is directly proportional to the way it is bonded on. If it's just a big chunk of sticky tape then it's not too much of a drama, but if it's glued/bonded it would be harder. He doesn't know which until he starts taking it apart.

Then there is the crimping round the door which he said wasn't something I'd want to muck around with at home at risk of ruining the part I was trying to fit.

Vinyl wrapping doesn't look to be an option since the gouge that has been taken out is well pressed into the metal, so there would be a permanent dent there even with a wrap.

Long story short, the body shop man (still no shampoo) can get the part cheaper than I can get it on the internet (where there appears to be only one part left in the whole world) and says it's an hour job for him; two hours maximum.

That still leaves me with a worst case price around £130 to repair some mindless vandalism. Hardly makes me feel warm inside.
