I have just returned after 4 weeks having left the FL2 locked in the drive. The car would not respond to the key and I had to gain admission using the key. The alarm sounded and was canceled when I inserted the key unit in the slot. The car was then unlocked and it started OK.
Thought someone may find this useful and would welcome any thoughts about what to do if left for a long time.

can you confirm if you car was fully deadlocked?

I couldn't get into my car the other month and the key would not work in to door and my dealer said it was normal  Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

Yeah ... maybe the fob battery had run down ....  Life is not a dress rehearsal!

The car was deadlocked and its only 6 weeks old so I would assume the key fob battery was OK. Unless it needs the car to charge it but the dealer said alternate the key fob about every 4 months to ensure charge.

perhaps you have stored the key wrongly?
and pressed a key by accident - sucked therefore the battery empty...

i thik i read/heard that storing the keys right next to each other can drain the batterys  Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

I had something similar, after only 10 days standing – and the car was less than 3 months old. After returning from an overseas trip in early February (so still fairly cold I guess), everything worked on the car, such as the radio and remote alarm etc – just that the car wouldn’t start, not even a click from the starter motor.

As it a Saturday afternoon, and too late to get hold of the Dealership - we ended up calling Land Rover Assist, and to be fair – they were excellent.

On the initial call, they took all the details and promised to call up back in 10 minutes with an ETA on when we should expect someone round. Sure enough, after just a few minutes we got the call, with a promise of someone round in less than 30 minutes.

20 minutes later – there he was, and in around another 20 minutes the car was repaired. Using some super duper test device, he found 2 dead cells in the car battery, so replaced it with a brand new spare.

Although he didn’t say it, I got the impression that this was a common problem, dunno if you guys have heard something similar, or if it’s related to the problems you guys are seeing here?

DeanoUK, a flat battery was definitely not the case with my problem, as the alarm was deafening all the time we tried to get in - and then it started straight away after about six weeks standing. It was just the key fobs that were the problem. 2007 Baltic Blue SE TD4 Auto

Hi PepperPot, just read through your original posting and will comment on a couple of things.

1). You mention quote "Apparently if I had just pressed the lock once when I locked up before I went away I would have been able to open the driver’s door with my stick and hook." However it has since been mentioned that if you only lock with one press (not double locked) when leaving the car for any length of time, the battery may run flat , as is what presumably happened to VIKING’s FL2.

2). On left hand drive cars both the physical key lock and the bonnet release are conveniently on the drivers side which may make you wonder what markets the FL2 was designed for

On the other hand it would seem to me (now living in a LH-drive country) that the right side of the road to drive is the left hand side and that all cars are designed thus to suit .

So maybe tis bout time you guys in the UK (& Australia) got driving on the correct side of the road  2007 Freelander 2 HSE TD4 Manual with Premium Pack & Moonroof.
