Thanks, I just had a British expat mechanic say he used to work on the petrol version back home. He must have been mistaken?

As far as I'm aware the petrol engine FL2 isn't avaliable in the uk? Though there was a petrol FL mk1?

I'm pretty sure petrol was previously offered. Not sure when it was dropped but I'm sure it was on option when I got my first in 2007. Or have I imagined that?

There is one local to me - only sold 2007 to 2009 I think.

I think they appeared from launch on the 56 plate but only lasted 2 or 3 years as demand in the UK was virtually non existant with high petrol prices and laughable mpg!

Floored mine out of the petrol station today whilst in Sport Mode.
Radio happened to be off and windows down. The sound of the inline 6 was just awesome Very Happy

Freelander 2 was available with the 3.2 i6 engine from launch until 2009 IIRC, when LR introduced their e-terrain technologies with TD4e (stop/start), now just called TD4. 2007 the auto became available with the diesel engine.

Current line up (UK):

*eD4 manual
*TD4 auto/manual
*SD4 auto 21MY Defender 90 S 3.0 D200

As said above, the 3.2 was available in the uk for the first 3 years of production. Basically the exact same model as sold in the US.

I had a choice of a black 3.2 when we bought ours back in 2007. In a lot of ways, I wish we did buy the 3.2 petrol. Freelander 2 HSE Lux 2013MY - Barolo Black with Ivory Leather. Alpine DVD - Privacy -Evoque 20" Dynamic Wheels and more to come.........

Brought our i6 over three years ago, went looking for one specifically as that was what i wanted. It was around 30months old at the time.
Used to far more thirsty than this, generally get around 25/26 MPG, This week on a run to Isle of Wight for a funeral and back managed 30/31mpg.

Really love the car & all its abilities, so much so this is the longest I have ever kept a car and cannot see anything I would want to change it for anytime soon! Very Happy

Got my I6 petrol in January partially because of what it hasn't got:
No Turbo, no cam belt, no EGR valve, no dual mass flywheel, no DPF.
Combine this with a price tag £3,000 -£4,000 less than the same spec with a diesel engine and petrol prices at less than diesel, and it was a bargain. Got 28.5 mpg at motorway speeds on a 250 mile round trip (checked tank to tank) so it is not as expensive to run as I thought.
Loving it - especially the 230 bhp 6 cylinder grunt from its Ford built Volvo petrol engine. Very Happy Freelander 2 i6 3200 Petrol
