I just want to share my experience with some towing - a friend called me his VW Touareg has died on a motorway and needs my help.Honestly I was little affraid about this as it was 60 kms from where I live and half of the way was through hairpins and mountains.As I have no tow bar I took my towing post and hooked him onto my rear towing eye.
Have to say that the car was awesome - up to the hills with 2,5 ton Touareg on my tail end the engine smoothly reved 1700 rpms with no problem.Also the auto box sets himself to towing mode and made his job perfectly.

...exactly... ...I wouldn't probably do this every day but it is good to know the car can do it when it is necessary

if i took mine shopping i would empty the carpark as its covered in cow dung after the manure spreader got to close oops just as well the power washer is set up ready to use 1995 P38 now dead

It'll be absolutely fine. 25% over a recommended limit? Margins aren't that close.

i used to have an SE td4 manual and it towed my mates LWB Isuzu trooper without any fuss, infact he commented on how torquey it felt! It wasnt quite over the mountain passes you drove over but it was nice to know the FL2 still "felt" within its comfort zone towing such a weight.
Having said that it's not something i'd recommend doing to often in the manual, but sometimes needs must"

....looks like this story has a funny end..Examined the Touareg today and found connection rod broken causing a hole in the engine block.As it is 10 years old with 320 000 km on the clock the friend decided to salvage it and jump into a D4 ..I know it is not a FL2 but its a LR and that counts
