Wouldn't start

Yesterday I drove home with no issues. Got in the car an hour later and it wouldn't start - put the key fob in, depressed the clutch, hit start. Lights came on, system check in progress and nothing. After a few seconds the display just went back to the normal display.

Tried the spare key fob, exactly the same.

Came back about 5 hours later and it started first time.

Anyone experienced this before or have any ideas? Otherwise will take it to the dealer (it's under warranty) to get them to have a look.

Thanks in advance.
Simon

Only an educated guess as it could be a number of things, but what you might have been seeing is an ignition start only (without clutch depressed), could be a dodgy clutch pedal switch.

I agree with EY. The clutch operated switch is almost certainly at the centre of the problem. Next time it happens, to confirm it, exercise the clutch a number of times and try again. 10MY (Sept 09) TD4 HSE Auto in Stornoway Grey (Now Gone)

If it is the clutch switch (and I agree it's likely) you should be seeing a message to the effect that you should press the clutch to start. Presence of such a message would confirm a problem with the clutch switch. Check your mats aren't getting in the way and preventing the clutch being pressed fully!

Interesting one this. Got in the car to come home and it wouldn't start. LR Assist have been out. Bit of head scratching. Says its not clutch switch. Checked voltages, tried to start it from his battery pack, no luck. Confirmed that my Heatshot and battery socket have been in for months.

Told him I had installed a piggback fuse in fuse 28 for additional socket (for Blackvue and iPod). He found the socket side fuse had gone but the original was OK. Took the piggyback out, replaced the fuse. Checked all the fuses in the passenger footwell - all OK.

Still wouldn't start. Thinks the fuse blowing in the piggyback holder may have caused an issue with the engine man system.

He bypassed the relay (2 wires, 9V battery!) and started the car to get me home. He's coming out tomorrow to take me in to the dealers.

Odd thing is, I drove home, switched off. I've just gone back out there and the car started with no problems!

I have just spoken to the LR Assist guy (very helpful, nice chap) and he says it's not he engine man system and not caused by my piggy back fuse (phew). Thinks it's the start control module ( I think that is what he said).

Anyway he's coming out tomorrow and hopefully get it all sorted but probably not in time to pick my new GG ATs up from Andy on Saturday.

Now that was my next educated guess Whistle
Good that you are still under warranty, I believe the 'start module' is just behind the fob insert part of the dash, so hopefully not to big a job. Smile

Thanks Richard, I'll see what the dealer decides tomorrow. It had a software update only a month ago when I had what was thought to be a DPF issue. I don't know if that covers it but it's odd that it only just started and is intermittent.

Got it back yesterday. They couldn't find anything although they updated the software.

So I now have to wait for it to happen again and if it does go through the inconvenience of calling out LR Assist and getting the car in again for more tests.
