United Kingdom 2007 Freelander 2 TD4 HSE Manual Stornoway Grey
2014 MY Freelander 2

Had a little bird tell me today about potential changes in Freelander 2 for the 2014 MY.

2.2 TD4 increasing to 163PS
2.2 SD4 increasing to 200PS

Manual SD4 being considered.

20" Wheels optional on Dynamic

Nothing major to the car though, as it will remain like it is for the final 18 months (From September 2013) of its life. Freelander 2 HSE Lux 2013MY - Barolo Black with Ivory Leather. Alpine DVD - Privacy -Evoque 20" Dynamic Wheels and more to come.........

Sounds interesting. Does this mean that there will be more mods lined up for your FL2 then?

They are upping the hp after embarrassingly being trounced by the Santa Fe on a first to 30mph race up a 1 in 4 hill. Shocked

The sd4 auto is perfect a manual is not needed i wish i had an auto Sad When I die, I want to go peacefully like my Grandfather did, in his sleep -- not screaming, like the passengers in his car

Evoque is keeping manual gearboxes in addition to the 9 speed auto.
Also it is possible to buy an Evoque SD4 with a manual gearbox, so why not offer the same option to those buying the Freelander?
Surprisingly there are still lots of people, for whatever reason, who prefer a manual gearbox to an auto.

Quite right Richard. The difference is that the manual users don't bleat on about it all the time like the auto evangelists. Give it a rest folks, and let people make up their own minds as to how many pedals they want.

Like it or not, a torque converter can get in the way off road, and for a 4x4 there are strong arguments for a manual (ideally with low range!). There are reasons auto isn't an option on the Defender you know! But I'm not a preacher so I'm not going to lecture you on them.

and right after that you went into the virtues of why a 'manual' could be better than an 'auto'. Rolling Eyes

I haven't made a comment but most of it is 'banter' with no malice intended, take the 'Doctor' for instance and his defence of the manual and attack on the 'auto', all banter and good fun.

There were a total of 4 messages in this thread alone with variations on the auto-is-best theme. And several hundred on other threads. It just gets a bit wearing after a while, and there comes a point where my patience snaps. All in fun, of course.

Also, I haven't given a single reason why a manual could be better. But after more than 20 years owning and driving 4x4s, manual and automatic, full time and part time 4wd, electronically controlled and traditional, I think I can claim to have some idea of what I'm talking about.

Just please allow that others may have different preferences, and just because you choose auto doesn't mean that everyone else should be forced to too!
