Just about to give my engine bay a clean and thought ill check to oil and seen the stick was a bit bonked out of shape
Is this normal for the freely ??????
Does it take some weirded bending path to the bottom of the sump - or is mine just

I think this is normal. Other members wondered if theirs was but it turned out that they are made like this. If you use the search engine on the site I think there is a discussion thread about it.

How do you clean the engine bay? I need to do mine but I don't know what methods people use and I don't want to damage anything.

Just warm water Chris and a bit of elbow grease
Not to keen on the steam cleaning of jet wash approach that's out there - never know what the jet is going to dislodge

Re engine bay.... have a look for a thread Taz answered to me on the subject.

I use autoglym engine bay cleaner, followed by covering a couple of key areas in plastic bags to be sure and then lightly jetsprayed. Finished with AG Viynal care.

To be fair - these things are spose to go wading so light rain type water should not harm.

Don't worry about dip sticks or engine oil, the previous owner of my FL didn't!
It makes a good low cost ebay project for the next owner when the big ends knock.(that's how I came to buy my FL).

This type of barley twist dipstick is quite common on other makers cars AND buckling is typical. The twist stops any risk of the real level of oil being wiped off as you withdraw it.
