LR Extended Warranty

My Freely is 3 next week! Going to keep it for a further 12-24months, as there is no point in changing it. The Evoque was too small, no replacement FL3 in sight and quite like the idea of a Porka Macan due 2014......

Anyway, I like fixed cost motoring, so I will be buying an extended warranty. £640 is the list price, so what if any experience, has anyone getting a better price.

Anyone know what the dealer pays LR for it to sell on to me? Recon there must be at least £100 profit in there somewhere?

Thx Thumbs Up 2010MY Freelander 2 HSE Auto

I phoned them up about the price of the extended warranty a couple of years ago, but no matter how hard I tried, they would not budge on the price. Just said it was laid down by LR.

Agree it is going to be a hard slog, but when the service lady asked me if I had any quotes from elsewhere & I replied just from the LR we site, she changed track and said that was the price......I'll keep you posted....... 2010MY Freelander 2 HSE Auto

LR rewards loyalty. If you take the LR extension after a new car warranty and dealer servicing, there is the best chance that issues will be resolved for you... Unlike some other extended warranties that will look for every way out of paying for repairs Gone... 2013 XS TD4 Manual Firenze Red

For some reason, LR have sent me a letter offering extended warranty, even though I already have it Laughing Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

Re: LR Extended Warranty

Triple 7,
Are you sure you want to buy an extended warranty from Land Rover?
You could save the cash, use an indie specialist for servicing & future repairs (if req), alot cheaper than a dealer.
I had the select used warranty from Land Rover for 6 months, when we bought our 58 td4, FL2 8 months ago.
Covered everything, but what I needed.
Items it did not cover:- Noisy front wheel bearing (as wasn’t an MOT failure). Clogged fuel filter. Intermittent fault with drivers front window. Leaky rear brake light cluster. Squeaky/stiff gear stick operation (oiled linkage myself). Having wheel bearing replaced soon from an indie, as front hub has to be replaced.
Every time I had a problem with the Landy, my dealer wanted £120 to have a look, to tell me it wasn't covered. So I didn't go that route.
On the positive note, I did use Land Rover Assist once. After low engine performance light came on. Came out the next day, diagnosed clogged fuel filter. Replaced it for £42. Said that it would not have been covered under select warranty. If this was to happen again, I will replace it myself. Now I know what fault codes to look out for. Found the service from land rover assist great. Landy has now gone.

I opted for the aprroved LR warranty with breakdown cover and pay about £73 per month

Had a fault on the diff, so in my eyes the that paid for it with the first claim, everything else is a bonus, and i can cancel it if i was to change car as its a monthly policy Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

I had a quote for £544 from Warranty Direct, which included wear and tear items on their top Luxury cover.

I didn't go for it.

I'm not yet out of LR warranty, hope I don't regret that decision.

However I do have a very good LR Indie.

My first Freelander was 3 years old when I bought it and came with extended warranty, couldn't fault it. Covered everything that went wrong.

have they put the price of the warranty up? I had the higher level warranty for thrre years and swear it was only 550 per year, without land rover assist. I didnt ever need land rover assist so that was a smart choice but have to say there were issues with my car during years 4, 5 and 6 and with the higher LR warranty in place they were sorted no quibbles.

I do about 25-30k miles per year so car does take bit more wear but i dont really off road or anything so you must think of how much use it gets, what type of use and weigh it up against cost and likelihood of repairs.

From memory i got new steering pump, new front spring, two drive shafts and one prop shaft, new front bearings, plus other little odds and sods.

Once car was 6 and over 100,000miles i decided not to go with the lower level of warranty as i have heard grumbles about what is and isnt covered. I may regret that in the future, i may not, but so far, so good.

Had mine in the garage recently for 3rd set discs and pads and was told of cars doing 170k miles with relatively few issues.

It's great to hear that these cars are getting to that sort of mileage without many problems.
