A very particular voicemail...

I keep getting stupid calls from random and mostly foreign call centres trying to sell me something or other. Whenever I fill a form in online or otherwise, I always tick or leave blank the box (depending on the crafty wording) so that my details aren't passed on but they must ignore it. Latest call to keep bothering me originates from Bulgaria.

I have therefore got the following customised voicemail:

"I don't know who you are, I don't know what you want, if you are trying to sell me something I can tell you I don't have time to talk to you, but what I do have are a very particular set of skills. Skills I have acquired over the course of my law degree, skills that make me a nightmare for people like you. If you hang up now that will be the end of it, I will not look for you, I will not pursue you. But if you don't, I will look for you, I will find you.......and I will sue you!"

I suspect the vast majority will hang up way before I reel all that off but worth it for the few that listen to the end. Laughing LL.B (Hons) - University of Derby

This one has been calling me for a week or so, about twice a day 01158712827 from Nottingham, it's just a tape recording, have it saved in my contacts under "ignore" now. Do they actually get people to listen to the taped message and call them back, odd way to do business.

I kept getting voicemails from a school in Wimbledon claiming that my son was ill and needed to pick him up. It's obviously wrong as I don't have any children and I'm not called Mrs Peacock. Laughing

Problem is computers dont listen.... I know because I have 2 phones ( TPS registered - which is voluntary UK only) which are getting serveral calls a week.

Tricks now include using local numbers etc - unfortuntly as one is a work phone I have to answer and that could include any number in the UK as well as international....

Its a poor state of afairs and although OFTEL know about it as do the mobile companies there is little you can do as a new number can simply be used.

TBH Doc I bet you could make a few quick tracking down and then recovering for loss of time......

I usually say 'hang on I'll just get him' put the phone to one side and leave them hanging there. Apparently they really hate that.

My brother-in-law puts on his best high pitched posh voice and says things like "Hold on just a second darling whilst I connect you to our buying department" He then whistles the A-Team theme or something daft like that down the phone before coming back and winding them up some more with things like "You are number 5,000 in the queue, approximate waiting time: 4 years"

Its called random calling, usually done by a computer picking out phone numbers in the hope someone will pickup and then they can try and make a sale.
there is a trick to stop repeat phone calls from the same company and it works like in this example

Pick up phone "Hello my name is fred bloggs and I am wondring if you have considered installing double glazing"

My Reply is " No I havn't but if you care to install it I will then decide if it works or not. If it doesn't I will have my old windows back, all at your cost "

Another in my business is " I see you have a **** company, can we build you a web site for it to increase your trade"?

My reply is " How did you find us"
Reply "Saw your web site on the internet"
Answer "So my existing web site works or you wouldn't have found us"

OR "Can we add your company name to our product it will only cost £**** per year. Usally concerning fliers,or moving advert boards in hospitals and the like

My reply " If you want to enhance your product by adding my excellent company name to it , I will invoice you for the sum of £500.000 for you to use my company name on a renewable annual basis

Always twist a salesman to them having to pay for the privilage of your time in trying it out first.

Works every time for me, never ever had a repeat phone call from the same company

I hung up on a guy once and he called me back swearing at me calling me a c$*t and all sorts. I asked to speak to his supervisor and he put his mate on who swore at me as well then hung up.
I called back and before he could say anything I said "that's a great job you have isn't it? Sitting phoning people all day in an office? Bit of a girls job isn't it? Can't you get a man's job or do you like being a secretary?" then hung up.

He called me back 64 times that day (I counted the missed calls list), I didn't answer one, must've annoyed him! Whistle

I always let them talk, with the phone on the desk,

while they are on hold with me they are not bothering someone else.
